Question about non-game animation.

Postby kittenzoe » Mon Dec 09, 2013 8:59 am

Hello guys, I was wondering if anyone knew a program other than flash that can be used sort of in the same way to animate 2D figures, I was thinking of trying to make an animated comic sort of story, but I don't have the money for buying flash, basically, I'm looking for a program where I can put in the movable and poseable characters like you guys do in flash, where you segment off joints so you can pose and position the character, sorry if this it total rambling, just wanted to get a post out tonight, thanks in advance!

i'm sorry but i'm not sure a freeware alternative exist. the major problem is the pure mathematical concepts needed to be understood are huge since flash uses vectors to draw not pixels. In other words i don't know any program as powerful as flash. However if you wanted photo shop (More pixel based drawing) then gimp is a good free version.

Not cool dude. You should have sent it through a email so the mods had less grounds to be moddy and snobby :P

Ah, okay, after a brief trip to Wikipedia I understand the difference and that makes a lot of sense, thanks, hmm... Doesn't seem like I can find any animating programs that actually have selection of areas that you can then move and position... And I'd really not like to draw every single frame for what I'm trying to do... ^^" thanks though, I may just suck it up and try and get flash...

I assume that's relevance was you are wanting me to pirate it? Yeah, sorry, no, I don't do that sorta stuff, especially when this is going to be a project with a friend... That'll be a bit hard to explain, even harder when I go to show other people...

True, but don't they have some sort of protection so you can't redownload the trial over and over in case my project takes longer than a month? (It obviously would)

Trial version has a 30 day limit on it; the only other real cost effective method is if you are a student, you can check with your university as Adobe sells student licenses for around $100 instead of $1000.

Example on Amazon - Overpriced because it is Amazon

Maybe I am thinking of the wrong thing, but have you looked at dragonbones?
http://dragonbones.github.io/
It is free 2d skeleton animation. But I don't know if it can work independantly. They keep talking about flash Pro and stuff.
If there are any complaints, queries, bills or cheques.
Please log them by throwing a rock at the darkest corner you see.
I'll generally be there.
