Why are there so many Un-finished/in-development games?

As a fan, I tend to prefer having a finished game show up over following it through the development stages, since far too many games end up being abandoned for reasons that I can perfectly understand but still results in disappointing ends. Besides, I've usually found that most suggestions or ideas I can offer are fairly common ones that the creators were already either planning to include anyway or are so 'niche' that they get drowned out by people asking for more popular kinks/scenes that show up in a majority of games. So, I'd usually prefer to just have a finished game presented to me and potentially be surprised at what the person/people behind it decided to throw our way for sexy fun times.

That being said, I do completely understand why a lot of creators prefer or even need the more 'in progress' approach with community feedback and assistance.

While I'm not a dev, I'm close to a few who are and beta test stuff, so I think I can add a few things.

Burnout, first. People don't understand that a porn game isn't something you just throw together in a day - how long has Sierra been working on The Last Sovereign? When you are working on something for two+ years, you're gonna get tired of it. People get burnout from work, making games is the same thing.

Too grand an idea on the very first project. This isn't just porn games, but someone has a grand idea for a game...but it's too grand and when they discover that their idea isn't feasible or would require massive rewrites to make it work, a dev stops with the project and possibly stops altogether.

Egos collide. See the Breeding Season fiasco on that one, but there's been other games that have done through development hell for years and years because people have different ideas on what the game should be like and both sides refuse to back down...
