looking for a spirter to work with on animations.

Postby bmn » Mon Sep 24, 2012 2:46 am

hey all, as the title states I'm trying to find a spriter to work with in flash. I'm mostly working on animations at the moment but I'll probably contribute with drawings/sprites of my own if things head in the right direction. maybe it'll work into a full on game as it progresses; for now I've been refining various game engines with animations of existing characters from this forum to see how things can play out and I'm sure things could easily snowball if I can get the right people to work with. if that happens to be the case, we'll pick up a programmer or two if the chemistry is right and put things into motion. for now I'm just testing waters here to see what I can find.. I've attached a couple of rough examples of some animations, nothing too special but most of the other work is being kept to myself so it'll have to do.

you might notice that this is an anonymous account; as I said, this is just to test waters and see what kind of artists I could potentially work with. if we can get a consistent style going I'll register on these forums and actively contribute. there's little point to me registering and ending up empty handed. so let's see what you've got, feel free to post some character work in flash and I'll either contact you via pm or reply here.

cheers!

What I heard: "You guys should make the effort instead of me!"

I see your animations, but come on. There are enough models around for you to make a game. There's no need to wait on artists.

Yea honestly, the people inthis community arnt inmmigrants looking for a job. We treat people equally here. Everyone is good at what they do. Some may need more oractice than others but dont just put it out there like you're the best in the world. If you gonna ask for help, ask them like they're human beings instead of treating them like it's an honor to work for you or something.

But nope I got nothing. I'm just a morale boost for people. I suck but I'd like to say I'm doing something to contribute. Hopefully someone will help you out. Just be sure to treat everyone equally, we arent items u pick off a shelf from shop rite.

sorry to come off as pompous, I wasn't meaning to give that impression at all. as an artist myself I know what kind of effort goes into this work, I'm just looking for a more refined and consistent style than that of my own. my drawing ability wasn't ever developed with consideration towards games/sprite work, so I do admit that's one place in which I'm lacking. anyway, this is more of a gauge to see if anyone would be interested to join efforts together and perhaps start something bigger than what we would put out as individuals. I'm not looking for anyone to make any effort for me, I already stated this would be a combined collaboration.

No problem man, but remember this: on this forum, people who are capable are a lot less common than people who ask for capable people. Every other topic seems to be a topic asking for artists or coders.

You could use Corta's work, he makes good models. if you do some good things with his models, he might make things specifically for you.

I doubt you could get better than that, but there might be artists hanging around to help you in your project.

Of course, I'm by no means saying you can't do this or shouldn't. I'm saying that you should start with what's already made on the forums. Playshapes' many models, Corta's models, Digfree's models, and Eggplant's models, to name a few.

Thanks for joining us!

Oh no problems at all. All I'm saying is that you should choose your words wisely before asking for help or else people will just not want to help at all. And like Zeus says, use what we already have, and if its not what your really looking for you could ask then. I'm sure the ones we got should be of great use though. The artists we have now are amazingly talented to say the most.

Its hard to find ones willing to work as a team though because once you get far and someone leaves, its devastating to the whole team itself if you relied on that one person for something. If I ever did make a game I would make it mostly myself from art to programming and asking for tips and advice from the people here instead of forming a team. That way I know it will be done and theres no reason for me to stop or postpone it.

I'd really love to see what you have done so far and give u some feedbak but unfortunetly Iphones are so smart they cant support flash. But on another note welcome to our community. I realize that you may wish to start on your own first but if I had some kind of talent I'd help the others in their work, and show them that they can work with you greatly. Needless to say, you should explore the forums yourself and look at what we got. And yes I will sometimes not make sense in my comments because i usually do them late at night which is when my eyes start falling out of their sockets. But yes make yourself at home. Even though its a forum on the internet...

It might be easier to get some artist contributions/colab if more an a particular project is in mind. Sure, people can meet up over broad sweeps and just messing around; or others might get interested and learn to develop themselves via a particular project.

On one hand, yea, there is quite a bit of existing models and materials available on the forums, but if its not quite what you have in mind for a given project, then its a bit more understandable to want people to maybe make some new sprits to animate. Or another possibility to rather to look to modify current models, esp on the proportions to get something that looks different from other projects.

Or even another possibility is to have one person with a given style made sketches and another person trace that into flash as well.

Its' true that there are many topics of people asking for coders or artists.
But one reason that these topics never get off the ground is because some person steps in, asks for people, gets help and abandons the project two weeks later.
Support is generally given to those that've proven they can hold a project till it's finished.

So my advice: Help others out first. Go to topics like Ivanaedler's MiM AE, or Corta'splatformer or GorePete's stuff.
There is a reason why these threads are always at the top, because they're alive.
(Corta just likes to take tons of breaks, that's all.)

Simply said:
We must get to know you a bit first. Post your skills in "living" threads and show your face often.
Only then do you get a shot of getting this off the ground. :D

I thought I'd whip up a quick sprite of my own to show that I'm not full of shit when it comes to taking initiative in these sort of things. it's not great, but whatever.. I'm trying to make a point here. ;p and please don't think that I'm asking for a full commitment to a serious relationship or anything with this.. I'd just like to mess around and draw some pronz, if things take off and get towards a project stage sure we'll roll with it. if you feel like it's not what you want to do and you'd like to use your efforts elsewhere, no problem. valithan got it right for the most part, I just want to put some original content out there and I'd like to see if there are any like-minded people here. even if we just end up making a couple of animations, that'd be pretty cool.

Y'know, I think you're being way too hard on your own sprites. Hell, I'd be thrilled to play a game with your art style. What's with the idea that it's somehow not good enough?

while I appreciate your compliment, the main point is to have a separate artist and animator to split the work load. the artist can also maintain consistency between drawings, rather than making something, animating it, and forgetting the main ideas of initial style.. or something like that. until I find someone I'll be doodling around with things like this but I don't plan for it go too far. :')

If you turn out to make a few sprites and animations, you could make a separate post for a "sprite corner", where you would show off your work. I for one think that your work is worth showing off. Your animations are smooth, and you definitely seem like no amateur. Hell, there's always room for more posts with content in this forum!

As for a project, I'd say if you don't think you have enough time or motivation for a large project, you might want to make a few small things with MiM engine (or especially the optomized ones), Corta's engine, or Gorepete's engine (to be honest, I don't have any idea how those guys made their engines). You could also use the New Bowser's Castle engine or the Legend of Krystal engine. If you only have time for small projects, minigames at best, it would still be a bunch of awesome stuff. At the end, if you decide that a large project wouldn't be too much work, you could do that. One thing I'd warn you about is relying on others to help you with your work. When people decide to help it's awesome, but reliability isn't something you'll tend to find here.

Thanks for listening to me rant, I hope it helped you out.

funny you mention that, I was actually working on the optimized version of MiM by humbird here and there. he did a really sick job with the engine improvements so I've been working on the animations for that 24fps bump, as well as adding my own for things like jumping and running.. I can't seem to find an original source of MiM though, I'd like to work from playshapes' original clips since they're kinda messed up in the optimized version. but yeah, working on that stuff is pretty much what inspired me to start this thread.. big ups humbird, ditch your pokemon game and come work with me. :'p

Да по моему дофига =))) Но что то процесс создания чего либо это не ускоряет =)))

I think that there are a lot of ... But as i can see it have not good impact on projects ;)

About sprites - if you are looking for some thing specified ask, may be some body have it. Some of people are a long time on forum and may be some of them collecting all shared content

But it is only a supposition
