Battletech - Operation Revival

Postby Gorbaz » Wed Dec 28, 2016 11:20 pm

It is the year 3049, and Humanity has expanded to the starts. However there is no unity among the Great Houses that rule their own little empires, and war is a common sight, fought with massive mechanical BattleMechs. This has been the way for the last thousand years, but those who once left are now coming back, determined to unite all the people of the Inner Sphere in the spirit of the last, great league of the stars.

Aesa Kerensky
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

The Inner Sphere is weak. Infighting and petty politics has robbed them of any sense of unity, and now has been selected as the time to reclaim what was once yours. You know from information reaching Clan Wolf from the infiltrated agents of Wolf's Dragoons that the reasons for invasion given to the other clans is false. While they rush ahead to claim as much glory as they can with shock attacks, your clan has been selected to go between the Falcons and the Bears, with plenty of time to carefully scope out your targets, hunt them down, and finally claim the kills. You have been chosen to be part of Beta Galaxy, along with the sole member of the Dragoons to return - Natasha Kerensky.

Everything was abuzz on the Gun Carriage as it dropped into the target system, attached still via docking collar to the Arctic Wolf warship. Claxons blared, summoning the MechWarriors onboard to their OmniMechs in preparation for planetfall. The planet selected was called Blackstone, and the intelligence presented at the pre-jump briefing suggested that the Freebirth mechwarriors stationed there were far from the best, and their BattleMechs old and worn. The Galaxy Commander had informed everyone assembled that this would not be a fight in which glory would be heaped on the victor, but it would be an easily won world, where the citizens could be quickly re-educated, before a jump out to more important targets could be made. In a move to show how weak the defenders were, and probably gain favour for himself, only a single star of Omnis had been bid to the fighting, with support from a unit of auxiliary garrison Mechs.

The OmniMechs of the 1st Heavy Star, Beta Galaxy, were secure in their harnesses and awaiting their pilots. Two Timber Wolves, one Summoner, one Mad Dog, and finally a brand-new Ebon Jaguar.

Tyra
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Information has come to the Ilkhan along with the rest of the Clans that the Inner Sphere is finally trying to unify itself. Suggestions are that they have found ways to manufacture older technology, and a new body is rising with its eyes fixed on Clan holdings. Now is the time to strike out at them. They think themselves strong, but a good blow from the forces of the Ghost Bear will show that they are weak, and not nearly ready for the war they want. Then, while they are reeling, it will be a straight run to Old Terra, victory, and the greatest honour any can have! None will stand against the Ghost Bear for long!

The warship dropped out of hyperspace directly above the target world of Porthos. It had been a tactical descision to assault the world first, using it as a jumping-off point to other systems. As with all periphery Inner Sphere worlds, this one had been reported as having a weak military presence - not that it mattered, as the Ghost Bear would smash through every opponent that presented themselves. A batchall had been presented to the world, but no reply had been forthcoming, and so a full trinary, along with Elemental support, had been bid to land on the world in order to capture it from whatever forces might try and put up a pitiful resistance. All the dropships were ready to launch, but the Elemental Star had been given the honour of going down ahead, making a sub-orbital drop in first, just to make sure nothing went awry

Velom Malfa
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

It has come at last, time for the Falcon's wings to spread wide. Time for the talons to strike hard at those who have failed to govern themselves with any degree of honour. While the Falcon is on the outermost corridor, predictions are that the fighting will be easy, the opponents weak and easy prey, and plenty of spoils will be returned to clan space. Some have decried the ambitious speed planned for the assault, the limited resources being brought along, and the forces dedicated to the assault, but they are forgetting that only the one clan who reached Old Terra first will become the IlClan. And against such a weak foe, victory will be swift and certain.

The warships sped through space at top speed, docking arms extended with dropships clamped in place, ready to commence their invasion. It had been decreed that there would be no formal declaration of intent against the enemy, as intelligence had left no bout that the barbarians were unfitting of such an honour. Gyrfalcon Galaxy had been assigned three targets to assault as fast as possible, the world ahead being the first of these, appropriately named Last Chance. The assault plan was simple - a mixed star of Kit Fox and Mist Lynx Omnis was to drop down first right on top of the main stronghold's external Mech stables and take them out, so that the follow-up heavy and assault stars could crash through the remaining defenders and sweep out any opposition before there was any to be mounted.

Slayiana
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

The Inner Sphere is weak. They were fools to not follow Keresky, and now is the time to teach them a lesson on how fat and unworthy they have become. The Smoke Jaguars have always been fast and fierce, and even if the information is true about their military build-up, it will be the Jaguars who will chase down their prey, slaughtering everyone who gets in their way, right to Old Earth! Then, and only then, will the clan become the Clan of Clans, and all others will acknowledge our rightful place!

Like true warriors, the main assault force of the Smoke Jaguars arrived in orbit over Santander's World and issued their challenge, being met by the man in charge, one Helmar Valasek. Old and overweight, his image personified the Inner Sphere freebirth surats, but honour had to be satisfied. Bids were made, OmniMechs and Elementals deployed to the site chosen, but were met with treachery and deceit. A full binary of Omnis and their escorting Elementals were caught in a trap and wiped out, reports suggesting that only four of the enemy Mechs being lost in return. The saKhan has declared the batchall to be null and void in the face of such dishonour, and now a full invasion of the small world is underway. The call to arms has been sounded, and all available OmniMechs have been loaded into the dropships, ready to launch down to the world below, and butcher those who would so callously break their word.

Leo Caldwell
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

The Third Succession War is over, and to further increase power and stability in the region, the Lyran Alliance has formed a partnership with the Federated Sons under Katherine Steiner-Davion. Together, the FedCom is the largest military organisation since the Star League, and with aims to hold back the DCMS forces under House Kurita. Word is that there is a new war in the Periphery, but then there is always war in that region.

The Dracs had gone too far this time. Reports had come through that a cell of insurgents had pulled off a strike against a Davion stronghold. Most got away, but those that were captured were convinced to reveal their point of origin - Turtle Bay. House Steiner, in a show of solidarity with their neighbour, has agreed to send an expeditionary force into Combine territory in order to strike back. But this had to be done off the books, so a number of the existing merc contracts had their payments doubled in return for one, simple operation. Thor's Raiders, a company-strength outfit specialising in fast strikes with long range weapons, had already signed up, and had plenty of space in their holds for extra passengers. Crew compartments, on the other hand, may be a little cramped...

Slayiana looks around her fellows each waiting for her as she enters the mech bay, their star primed and ready to be dropped onto the celestial body below. The anger that flooded through her over their lack of honor raged from the others as well, each warrior dressed and garbed ready for battle. "let's burn their unhonorable hides." She tells her star before she climbs up, getting lifted into her Daishi, her Dire Wolf leading the assault as her companions, Corral, Levi, Moon, Furey, each getting into their own mechs, A Loki Hellbringer, a Timber Wolf Mad Cat,a Mad Dog Vulture and to be with Slayiana on the front lines An Annihilator respectfully. Each suiting up and readying themselves for the drop, getting ready and checking their mechs before each waited to be dropped down onto the planet.

Aesa calmly ran her hand along the smooth, cool armoured panel of her Timberwolf before climbing in. She felt peace at the moment, a relative calm from the flurry of emotions the last days had brought. The declaration for the invasion has troubled her, that foolhardy crusaders could have mistook and misappropriated her namesakes words so, was irritating beyond measure.

The assigned mission and her commanders words had done little to improve her mood. All the training and effort she had made, topping every class she took, to be assigned to such an honourless task as engaging and claiming such a pitiful world and opposition.

It had not been till she had heard that Natasha Kerensky had returned and joined Beta Galaxy that her mood lifted. Natasha Kerensky, THE Natasha Kerensky was here with her, Aesa had studied every battle the great women had ever fought in her studies, memorising every key detail and tactical shift, hoping to one day to be able to surpass her genetic sister. She had thought about trying to find the woman before the operation, to introduce herself, but decided against it as she bore now laurels of note when compared to Natasha. No, her Sister would hear of her deeds on the field of battle before she would make an try to come face to face with her idol, which caused her to rethink her attitude of the mission.

Let the other Clan's sprint ahead to the big prizes, leaving resistance behind to nip and bite their heels as they passed. Aesa's textbooks had been filled with folly of generals who had made this mistake and suffered in the long run. Clan Wolf was here now, she was here, and Aesa would show everyone just how a Kerensky fought their battles.

Strapping herself into the cockpit, Aesa began to go through her pre-ignition checklist. She was new to the Star, having only won her challenge of position to enter the Star a week before the Invasion was declared, and determined nothing would get in the way of the mission.

The honor of the first strike fell to her.

Elemental Star Commander Tyra rattled in her harjel cushion as the elemental star entered the atmosphere of this planet. A planet where its inhabitants squandered the legacy bequeathed upon them, fallen to pettiness and mediocrity, lacking even the common decency to answer a batchall with at least a plea for mercy.

Inside the elemental armor, Tyra was comfortable. She was an excellent elemental pilot, with a keen sense of the battlespace. Outside of the armor, she felt naked, like she was missing her skin. Her battlespace awareness came in useful once when she took over a damaged phantom and relayed tactical information for the remainder of the Binary during combat, but it was not her place. Plus, it was demeaning for a Star Commander to be secondary on a single Point, even though the smallest mech in said point outmassed her entire command.

Here in a battlesuit, where she could feel every bump, every hit, every movement. The smell of a planets air wafting through the filters, the subtle heat of the sun baking her inside the armor. This was where she belonged.

Activating the communications channel, Tyra addressed her 24 troops. 'I don't know what we're going to face, and I never want to know. We are elementals, soldiers on the ground, not mechwarriors sitting comfortably in their comfortable battlemechs. We see, we fight we destroy! We land on the outskirts of a local port city, I want two points on wing, one in center, two in reserve. My command point will take the center, I want high mobility! The moment we spot anything, engage immediately. These soft fools are no match for an elemental of Clan Ghost Bear!'

As her troops roared in assent, Tyra went over the drills she instilled in them. A full Star of her elementals could destroy a star of omnimechs, if at least 4 full points survived the first engagement. Once in range, her elementals would climb up onto the mechs and use the manipulator arms to stay on the bodies of any mechs being attacked. No pilots were keen to risk shooting their own ally, especially if they were being swarmed by elementals themselves.

Leonard suppressed a yawn as he finished running the final checks on Wickerlord, his personal mech. Customized Crusader variant's small and stuffy cockpit felt comfortable in an odd way, making it harder to fight off sleep even though Leo knew sleeping inside a battlemech caused horrible cramps and back pains, thus was a terrible idea, not to mention deployment was in twenty minutes. He took another big sip from his styrofoam cup of coffee he had gotten from the mess hall, trying to jumpstart his mind out of sleep deprivation.

"Looks like somebody didn't get any sleep." came the taunting voice of James Cooper, his fellow lancemate, over the coms.

Leo let out a growl which turned into a yawn halfway in response.

The quarters Leo had been given had been more like a closet than an actual room with a bed that was as comfortable as a bare pile of rocks. While many would consider him to be lucky seeing as many other freelancers that tagged along with the Thor's Raiders had to deal with worse sleeping arrangements, Leo refused to be content with shit just because everyone else's smelt worse. He was an ace pilot for fucks sake. He had more skill then every one of those losers combined. He deserved better than the broom closet they called sleeping quarters aboard Raiders' jumpship.

Meanwhile James had went and seduced one of the female members of the Raiders into sharing a room and a bed. Life wasn't fair sometimes.

"Oh come on, it can't be that bad. Soph seems to have slept well enough" James said, correctly interpreting his growl and yawns. Leo wished he could flip him off.

"Trust me James, i did not. I feel like i took a nap inside a battlemech cockpit." Sophia responded, sounding alive and alert despite her claims. Leo envied her.

Sophia Wintergate or "Soph" as Leo and James called her was the third and last member of their little lance unit. Sophia was the veteran of the group, having been a pilot longer than both James and Leo despite only being a year older than Leo. She piloted a Centurion while James piloted it's Trebuchet variant, thus effectively forming a very flexible unit along with Leo's Crusader that could both fight at long range and close range combat.

"Leo, is there anything from the Raiders command?" Sophia asked.

Despite the seniority and veterancy Sophia held, Leo was the leader of their little unit. As such, task of relaying orders to his lancemates fell to him.

"Nope, no orders yet. Probably Raiders command is getting other freelancer units organized. Shouldn't take them too long though."

Hopefully, Leo added internally, for if he didn't get into the action soon, he feared he may asleep in his own mech's cockpit.

Aesa Kerensky
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

With everything strapped in and ready to go, the dropship disconnected from its carrier, the docking arm swinging out before releasing the starship into the void. Engines fired, angling the transport down toward the planet surface, atmosphere battering against the plating as it rushed down, quickly righting itself before touchdown at the designated landing site. Mech engines whined as they were set to full power, the entryway sliding open and ramp descending, giving the heavy mechs freedom to disembark onto the world, now that their transport harnesses had been removed. Natasha's voice squarked out of the comm system in all the mechs present. "Warriors of Clan Wolf. The challenge has been given and accepted. The defenders of this world stand ready to face us in combat, and will fall before us as Freebirths shall. Move out, but be prepared for ambush, in case honour means less than we thought".

The star's Med Dog moved out first, the area clear enough for anything threatening them to be taken down by it's missiles before becoming a real threat. The pilot, Aulus, tapped into the line. "Sensors are clear. No sign of hostiles in the vicinity. Nav points loaded and ready". Early reports indicated that the warriors defending this world were using outdated equipment, nowhere near a match for the pride of Beta Galaxy's omnis, and should be at a refinery only a short distance away.

Tyra
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

The rest of the Elementals cheered as they all rushed down toward the planet's surface, the speed of their descent easily able to cause serious injury to any other, freebirth of truebirth. But the Elementals were made of sterner stuff! The port city rushed up to meet them, the sights of industry in full swing as if no-one knew that the Ghost Bear was here to take their world. The city itself was small, most buildings barely two stories in height, the important administrative ones double that of the others, and all slab-sided with small windows. At least three ocean-going vessels remained in port, heavy good vehicles moving to and fro.

As the Elemental point slammed home, alarms started going off through the city, the surprise assault knocking any defenders offguard. Some people ran, others stared in disbelief at what was going on, unsure how to respond. It took several minutes before Zarla, commanding the right flank star reported in. "Contact! Swiftwind scout car due north! Moving to intercept!". The crack of laser fire followed by a muffled explosion told that she had her prey. It took a moment longer for Johannes on the other flank to report in. "Star Commander. There is a column of Stalker APC's moving towards your position, and a single battlemech on the hills to the south. Requesting the honour of engagement"

Slayiana
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

The star dropped straight from the dropship as it blasted through the skies of the world, control jets breaking the fall of the assault star then betatching as they made groundfall. The Hellbringer and Timber Wolf making landfall first and opening fire on the first thing they saw - a small refueling depot. Lasers sliced into the geodome containers, igniting the fuel stored inside and making the whole place go up in flames. It was a mark of intent - no dishonourable dogs on this world were making it out alive.

The venerable Annihilator slammed into the ground, followed by the Mad Dog. Levi's enhanced sensor suite in his towering 100 ton mech pinged as it sweeped the local area. "Star Commander. Two contacts attempting to disengage from the area. East by north-east, moving fast. Likely light mechs or vehicles" he reported in, prompting Furey to spin his Timber Wolf towards the facing, locking on with the twin LRM racks. "Confirmed. Jenner and a Commando. Surats flee from an honourable death!"

The other defenders of the world were nowhere to be seen - probably pulling back into bolt-holes, or preparing further ambushes...

Leo Caldwell
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Shipboard speaker systems blurted into life, the gravelly voice of Victor Dace, captain of Thor's Raiders distorted by the aged equipment. "Alright listen up mercs. Ship captain says we'll be arriving in-system in five. Everyone who'se coming down to kick some Drac ass be in your mechs before them. We're making a hot drop, right on top of a salvage yard. Resistance should be light, terrain favourable, and loot worth billions of creds right at out feet!" Lights slammed on in the mech bay, signalling the imminent return of the Raiders to their Battlemechs.

Doors slid open and the slam of boots on plating showed that those of the carrying unit had no desire to be the last one to drop, engines whining as pilots climbed up and cold-started their rides. The lance in the bay was a light lance, something that the Thor's Raiders were known for using, which also explained all the extra room there was. A Raven 3X point mech was the first to come online, weapons cycling as it prepared for the hot drop. Next, old engine system stuttering, came the practically ancient form of a Night Hawk, presumably kept running by an influx of spare parts. Finally, the pride and joy of the lance - a pair of antique Wasps stuttered to life. The equipment of the lance may be old, but if they were up to specs, then they could outrun almost anything on the battlefield.

The dropship shuddered as it detatched from the jumpship, umbilical arm swinging it out and releasing it. Gravity plating slammed into high to compensate for atmospheric acceleration, doors opening as they neared their target. "Don't be afraid to call if you need eyes down there, big boys" came the thick, local accent of the lance leader, Dominic Brown. He'd tried to pass himself off as at least being personable and willing to lend a hand in exchange for a few bills, but he was clearly a merc first and foremost, and the fact that James had been sleeping with someone under his command may lead him to be a bit more mercenary than normal.

her cockpit rattling as she headed to the ground below her eyes closed and a smirk of satisfaction at the idea of landing and battling away. as she hit down last her mech hunched over before looking over her scans and nodding. "take them out, sweep and cleanse this place." She orders the rest of her star her own mech advancing. "It if moves level it and the surrounding area." She orders the star marching directly forward. "Spread out and sweep." making sure her star knew what to do as she advances her mech turning around to look about as she checks her systems making sure everything was running fine while she attempted to find a target to blow to pieces eager to get into the fray. "Eyes open these dogs will try to ambush us."

Tyras pulse quickens as the sound of combat cracks across the comms channels while contijuing the advance westwards. A rich world has been selected for Clan Ghost Bear, but the defenders so far were lacking. Still, Tyras observations as battlefield aurveillance meant that even honorable combat could be disrupted by good scouting and flanking... and the weaklings of the inner sphere could only find victory through deceit.
Pleased that Zarla has destroyed the scout element, Tyra makes some snap decisions. 'Zarla, advance at flank speed, secure the north against any other scout elements, engage APCs from flank if clear. Johannes, draw the battlemech away from our main force. Identify the target, and engage at discretion.'

The battlemech was too far away to be concerned with. The main threat were the APCs coming forward, when they were going to disgorge their infantry. Being caught in a tactical crossfire was always bad, whether the fire was coming from mechs or from infantry. 'Klein, Hsieh, on me! Take out the APCs first, Hsieh and I will charge and overrun any infantry before they can dig in once armored elements are neutralized.'

Tyra thinks about it for a few seconds. Interrogation might be necessary. 'Klein, swing left and support Johannes when engaging the battlemech. SRMs on mech hardpoints, lasers on optics. Keep the harrassment up till you both close in. Then swarm and disable it. I want a prisoner to interrogate.'

The honor of engaging a battlemech should be a Star Commanders own, but the greater threat was the APCs. Hopefully everything went right.

And if it didn't... an elementals duty was to fight.

Aesa regretted taking a class on engineering and atmospheric re-entry as she was buffeted around inside her cockpit, mind racing and focusing on every little minor detail that could go wrong and lead to her fiery death before she had even faced battle was anathema to her. A cracked cooling line, a fastener on the hull plating improperly fastened, all things that could be overlooked, ignored in haste or complacency was all it would take to destroy a future military genius like herself.

Instead, she hummed to herself the Ode to Joy, using the skills of a musical class she had felt had been a waste of her time until this moment. It seemed appropriate to her somehow, yes, the Daughters of Elysium had come, drunk with fire to bind all men of the Inner Sphere as brothers. Yes, the ode was appropriate, and calmed her nerves.

Aesa stopped humming as she drop ship slowed it's descent as she brought her Timberwolf fully online, lest the rest of the Star hear her nervous habbit. Seeing the ramp lower and the Mad Dog lead off she moved the her mech into line, nearly faltering and tripping as she heard the voice over the comms.

It couldn't be, Natasha was here? In the same Star as her?

Hurriedly she brought up the Star list on her display to confirm. She groaned inwardly as the data started to display across the monitor, had she been so occupied with avoiding Natasha that she had missed the trial of position?

Shaking it, she focused on manoeuvring the 75 tons that was the pride and flagship of Clan Wolf down the ramp and begun scanning the horizon as she took position in the formation.

With a lack of obvious danger she took a moment to ponder how she would fight this battle, to compare to the Star Commander's later. With two Timber Wolves and Mad Dog the Star's long range missile supremacy was without question, before even adding in the Summoner, Ebon Jaguar and the Star's other long range weapons. Yes, she thought, this battle should be fought a distance, lure the enemy from the refinery and then bombard them into submission. She brought up her map and looked for ideal firing positions, if they could lure the aged Freebirths out and hit from multiple angles at once the shock of so many missiles from the opening bombardment and the obvious superiority of her Star could cause the Inner Sphere pilots to surrender without having to destroy their Mechs, damage the refinery or waste further munitions on them.

Leo was glad that his lance unit had readied early, allowing them to secure their spots on a dropship without having to tangle to with other freelancers. After the little briefing Raiders' leader gave over the shipboard speakers, Leo lost no time, giving his own orders to his lance mates over their own private com channel.

"Alright, here is the game plan. James, you are on Overwatch duty. Sit your ass on the loot we secure and cover us."

"You got it."

"Soph, you take point. While i don't have any reason to doubt Raider's intel, that is no reason not to be careful. I want to be forewarned of any enemy contact."

"Understood."

"Since our allies are mostly light mechs, we probably make up most of the firepower in our group. That means we can actually smash our way through enemy opposition faster. Thus, priority is to get the juiciest bits of salvage and loot before others does and pick anything worthwhile along the way. We do a good job here and its only few more payouts before we get our own jumpship. So bring your 100%."

Soph and James replied with their acknowledgement as they powered their mechs. Their lance were ready to move out by the time doors opened. Leo held back a snort at lance leader Brown's word. He had no intention of sharing his winnings. He aimed to get the biggest slice of the pie. Sophia's Ironwitch with her modified engine and James' Havoc were mechs capable of matching pace with light mechs. While his Wickerlord was a bit slower, he made up the biggest portion of their firepower and was faster than most of the other mechs of his class thus eliminating any worry of being left behind.

Leo soon heard the telltale sound of servos and clamps as dropship released its occupants. He felt his mech shake and rumble followed by an earthshattering boom, announcing its landing. Leo quickly checked his tactical map, noticing that Ironwitch had started to move already with Havoc not too far behind.

"Show time." the ace pilot grinned.

Aesa Kerensky

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

The terrain flashed up on the HUD, giving a 3-D representation of the surrounding area. The refinery spotted in the distance was nestled below a sloping hill, perfect for an ariel assault, but far too close to maximise ranged damage without some retaliation. Woods nearby also provided some protection and a decent fireing range, but it was sparse enough that the star's mechs would be visible to any oncoming enemy. On the secondary listings of the personnel, the Kerensky bloodname only showed one - against her own mech. While Natasha was on-world, it seemed she had elected to command a different group.

The Mad Dog stalked out ahead, speed set to half for optimum balance between movement and sensors. Everything seemed clear for a while as they moved forward, until the advanced suite pinged. "I have contacts, Star Commander. Moving in at high speed from the west. No ID yet-" A streak of ruby fire rippled across the 'mech, the cockpit side melting off a split second before a loud boom announced the arrival of four aerospace fighters. The Ebon Jaguar twisted, LRM's getting a lock on the trailing fighter before launching the first salvo. The pilot jinked, trying to avoid the missiles, but two slammed into one of the engines, making it spiral out of the sky. The second Timber Wolf and the Summoner opened up with their laser weapons, energy beans slicing up into the sky and clipping another who peeled off, trailing smoke, and leaving the remaining two banking around for another pass...

Tyra

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

"Ath!" came Zarla's response, her elementals launching up on their jump jets to land on nearby buildings, leapfrogging their way toward the line of APC's in order to engage their foe. The vehicles were swift, but their single laser armament was little threat to a fast-moving unit. Soon, laser-fire erupted between the two forces, Zarla's Elementals lashing down at the APC's who, in turn skidded and slewed around, trying to elevate their weapons for decent return shots. The Elemental laser systems, while not powerful, would be able to melt through the thinner top armour of the vehicles in a short amount of time.

Klien and Hsieh followed up after Tyra, making a frontal assault into the chaos of the street battle. Rifle squads were desperately trying to disembark from their pinned vehicles when the hammerblow struck, the disorganised squad from the nearest vehicle getting cut down easily. Once the trap had been sprung, the remaining squads stuck close to their vehicles, trying to gain whatever cover their could, resulting in return fire being blind.

Johannes' com cut in once the skirmish had reached its height. "Commander. Moving in on the mech, but receiving a repeating hail over an older band. Patching in"

"...Uchi Tikimodo, challenging unidentified attackers for control of this world. Respond, please!"

Slayiana

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

As one, the assembled clan mechs brought their energy weapons to bear on the retreating warriors, beams flashing out and scorching the armour on their backs. The Commando twisted and stumbled as it was mercilessly pummeled, its armour being punctured in several places until a slow whine started, the engine housing having been breached. Moving at top speed, the Jenner dashed away, weapons strikes still knocking it off balance but failing to quickly kill it.

The defenders of the world knew the Clans were here, and would undoubetly know that there were far more than the initial force that they eliminated. However, the clan mechs were many, and the Inner Sphere warriors had, at best, 8 mechines left to their name. It was likely that those left would try and hide in the more mountainous regions, but then there were a few towns that, if put to the flame, may draw them out

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

The Raiders, it seemed, refused to be beaten to the punch. Ignoring standard ship safety procedures, the four members of their light lance racked their engines to full power, storming out of the opening hatch the second they could, and sprinting out into the field. The dropship had landed very close to the designated yard, the other two on their way down on the other side. The light mechs were already half-way to the yard by the time Havok and Ironwitch had disembarked, weapon systems primed and searching for any targets.

Once again the comline patch cracked into life, this time with a light female voice coming through. "This is Blindside - scopes are clear, no movement nearby. Looks like a sweet haul ahead, too". The Raven, apparently piloted by Blindside, had stopped in the open while the others dashed forward, the yard clearly visible and surrounded by a perimeter fence. Little could be seen over it, except for the tops of a few container stacks - and what appeared to be a Dragon. It was not smooth sailing, however, as alarms started to ring out from the compound, energy spiking as power was routed to perimeter defences, and several hidden cannon emplacements sprung up

Aesa felt relieved as she saw Natasha was not in the star, allowing her to gain fame and laurels without her elders prying eyes. Looking at the map, she felt the woods held promise, it was difficult at best to hide the hulking frame of mech so any concealment was an added bonus.

Her mind snapped back to attention at the contact report from the Mad Dog and she begun to scan the horizon for the oncoming threat. She cursed to herself as the flight of fighters streaked in before she can bring her weapons to bear, her training kicking in as she manoeuvred the Timberwolf away from the others to prevent multiple mechs being hit in a single pass.

The fact the Star Commander had not given any orders on how to respond to the threat irked her and she made note of it for later. The man should have been clear and cleanly directing their efforts instead of just walking them in a gaggle towards the refinery. The the Star Commander been lulled into complacency by the reports on the enemies strength or lack of honour this operation held? In Aesa's mind this outrage screamed at her to initiate a trial of position, how could she be expected to follow the lead of an inferior mind; but now was not the time, that would come after this debacle.

Seeing the remaining fighters swing in for another pass, Aesa powered up her own arsenal of lazers to light up the sky. She'd been tempted to use her own LRMs, to lock on for a guaranteed kill but knew such a vulgar display of power was wasteful and unwarranted against such a small target. No, with only a limited supply of missiles and a proper battle still to fight her lazer batteries would do just fine.

Tyra smirks from inside her rebreather. Zarla did magnificently securing the high ground. 'Zarla maintain high ground, disable all weapon hardpoints.'

Reviewing the infantry platoon hunkered around their APCs, I realize that they wont be a threat once the small lasers on the APC are disabled. Blindly firing small arms that won't hurt us, Hsieh can take it from here. 'Hsieh, keep the infantry pinned down while Zarla takes out the APC turrets. Once done, you two lead your elementals in and mop up survivors. Shoot the gun arm of any who surrender, let these weaklings live to tell others of the mercy Clan Ghost Bear offers to those who submit.'

Which brings me to the main item of note. Tyra pulls up comms with Johannes and Klien. 'A response has been registered, but not on the batchall frequency. Presume unknown threats. Conserve SRMs, use lasers on the mech hardpoints and optics.'

Pulling up the frequency of the hail, Tyra steels herself then speaks. 'This is Star Commander Tyra of Clan Ghost Bear. You are not responding to the batchall issued to this world, therefore you are not the defenders. Identify yourself, so that we may face each other in honorable combat!'

Looking around she watched as her star torn apart the inner sphere mech making it toss and turn as it was hit only to watch the second still get away, grumbling she looks around the towns she was in and nodded. "Corral, Moon proceed and hunt down that mech, rest of you level and put the town to torch, we'll draw them out." With that she began opening up, firing her energy based weapons at the buildings, planning on crumbling them to dust as her star add in. "Save your ammo." She orders over the comms to the star that's with her, Moon and Corral setting off in the Loki and Vulture to chase down the Fleeing Jenner hoping trying to slow it down or destroy it before it can get out of weapon's range completely otherwise use it to see if it runs into reinforcements giving them more inner sphere scum to put down

Leo had expected light mechs to take the lead. It was unavoidable since they were built for speed. In a contest of pure speed, they would win over medium and heavy class mechs, anytime. Fortunately, this was not a matter of pure speed as the automated defences coming to life reminded to the members of the Raiders. While, automated defense system around the yard wouldn't be enough to stop a lance of mechs, Leo's expectation was that it would slow the light mechs who were only lightly armored. His Wickerlord and Sophia's Ironwitch were both heavily armed and armored, more than enough to plow through those canon emplacements without slowing down, especially when Raiders took their attention first.

"Looks like our hosts are graceful enough to scout out the traps and defenses for us. And that is a Dragon mech right there, waiting for us to claim it. Soph, full speed ahead, see if you can reach the Dragon first while our allies are busy with automated defenses. James, cover her. I want anything that even looks funny at Ironwitch to be buried in LRM's and laser fire. Let us see if we can secure that Dragon before it comes online." Leo said, pushing throttle of his mech to full.

Ace pilot intended to follow Ironwitch as closely as he could, adding his firepower to hers while providing a safe point for her to fall back if needed while plowing through any enemy resistance in a way that only an Assault or Heavy class mech could. Only reason Leo commanded Sophia to take point was because Ironwitch was faster than Wİckerlord, with 86 km/h compared to his mech's 64.8 km/h, thus had a better chance of reaching the inert Dragon first.

[sorry im late D: works been a killer!]

Velom sighed as she had to get going and fight, she wasnt best of her clan but she did her best. She quickly got ready and checked her cockpit for any malfunctions "welp everything looks great thus far lets hope she holds together" she said to herself as she waited for herself to drop. Once she was released she maneuvered her mech to be at the most optimum spot.

Aesa Kerensky

The remaining two fighters swung back around, lasers once again lighting up the Mech's beneath. This time, however, without the element of speed and surprise, the return fire was able o slice into their armour, one going up is a fireball as the engine detonated, the other going down as the pilot ejected, the jet crumpling as it collided with the ground.

With severe damage sustained to the torso and cockpit, the Mad Dog sagged for a moment before the stabalisers kicked in, stopping it from collapsing foward. Thankfully the engine had not been hit and, as far as all scans went, it was still moslty operational.

Sensors pinged at long range towards a distant collection of beildings. It appeared that was the main mech hub for the area and, if it was taken out, the contest for the world would be over. Of course, there was still that airstrip nearby which might still have some fighters being prepared to launch

Tyra

The Elemental forces went about their assigned duties, cutting into the APC's, and gunning down the outgunned soldiers as they tried to put of a defence with carbines and pistols. The civilian section of the city had already started to flee from the scene, trying to hide inside buildings and alleyways.

The comm line crackled once again as the frequencies linked up. On the other end was an aged voice, obviously belonging to the man in the mech. I am Uchi Tikimodo, formally of the Draconus Combine. This world contains no defences, and your challenge was not received. If you value honour like you claim, then I will stand as this world's defender"

Slayiana

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

...

For hours after, your Star stalked through the landscape, finding almost no signs of civilisation beyond the scattered buildings already seen. Every now and then your sensors picked up the ping of a scouting mech, but chasing revealed only signs that one had been in the area, or an abortive booby trap.

However, as the sun started to set, a new collection of pings came up, these not retreating shortly after detection, and far more than the sporadic readings that had come before. Having moved into a more mountainous region, it seemed that they had set up some kind of base in the region. Either that, or a new set of traps.

Leo Caldwell

The old light mechs of Thor's Raiders sprinted forward, their short-range weaponry lighting up to scorch the housing of the defence turrets. Bolts and shells impacted with durasteel and concrete aline, at least until heavier firepower came into the fray.

Soph pushed her mech to its maximum, storming forward and right up to the perimiter wall, using the arsenal of weapons on her Iornwitch to crack open the wall just enough for her mech to squeeze through and into the yard. What stood there, along with the powered-down Dragon, were several container stacks stuffed full of weapons, components, replacement parts, and even a multi-link flatbed, seemingly used for transporting huge loads. And the promise that, if they wern't quick at grabbing
what they wanted, then the wrath of the DCMS coming down on them.

Velom

The drop was swift, the transport ship skimming in low before landing, doors opening to discorge the binary of mechs located within. Already the mech stables were showing signs of activity as people scurried about, desperately trying to get something ready in the face of the surprise assault. As it stood, the three hangars all had their doors closed, and the perimiter gates were open. The automated autocannon gate defences, however, never needed to sleep.

Aesa yipped with joy as she saw the two fighters disintegrate in the superheated glow of Star's lasers. In the grand scheme of things she knew the victory meant nothing, a shared kill of an aircraft was hardly something to rest her name on... no only a mech would do for her to paint a kill tag on the side of the Timberwolf. Still, she was pleased with her handling of the mech and that she had scored hits on the bailed out jet. If the others didn't beat her to the punch she would claim the pilot as her bondsman if he was captured alive.

Moving to support and cover the Mad Dog she awaited the Star Commanders orders. She pondered if it was her command she would have gone for the airfield first, to remove any threat it may pose in a protracted battle with planets defenders. Such an attack could also lead to the enemy mechs moving to try and save the airfield and being caught out in the open like they had - and damn the Commander again for that.

Slayiana joins in with her star wiping all the structures, turning the place to rumble as her and her fellow clanners make their way through the town, Any scouts they find seem to quickly disengage has her see to the full regroup of her Star. "Star Follow me and keep on the look out, the runners seem to be near the mountains that's where we'll go to destroy the feeble dogs." She grins before She leads the advance, heading further and into the mountains until her radar begins to pin with multiple signatures.

"Star form up on me." She calls over the comms, her fellow clans signalling affirmatives as they close up and keeping gong, heading deeper up the mountain passes looking for any signs of an ambush and anyone to kill. Salyiana herself was yet to actually get in mech on mech combat and claim a kill for her own since the drop.

Leo didn't take long to join Soph on the other side of the wall, needing only a small moment to widen the entrance left by Ironwitch. "Jackpot!" Leo thought as he beheld the Dragon mech and the containers full of loot around it. He didn't waste a moment in joining Soph, helping her establish a safe perimeter around their loot, marking up potential kill zones and cover positions while he also commed the closest dropship available for loot retrieval.

"This is Wickerlord. We have a inert Dragon mech here along with several containers full of weapons, ammo and spare parts. Requesting pick up on the marked position." he said in a cool tone, hiding his excitement.

Over the years Leo had been with Sophia and James, three of them had saved up a good deal of money to buy a jumpship of their own. While repairs and upkeep along with other expenses had slowed them down, they had managed to amass a considerable amount of creds. They were three thirds done with the amount need to buy a small jumpship and the payout from all of this loot would go a long way to finishing up that final quarter. They just needed to hold out until all of it was secure.
