Ichigoichie "One time, One meeting"

Postby Nicoffee » Fri Jul 01, 2016 3:03 am

Ichigo Ichie literally means “one opportunity, one encounter”.The terms is often translated as “for this time only,” “never again,” or “one chance in a life time.”

Its better translation may be “Treasure every encounter, for it will never recur.”

The term is derived from Zen Buddhism and concepts of transience, and it is particularly associated with the Japanese tea ceremony and it is often brushed onto scrolls which are hung in the tea room. In the context of tea ceremony, ichigo ichie reminds participants that each single tea meeting is unique that will never recur in one’s lifetime, therefore, each moment should be treated with the utmost sincerity.

It can be applied to one’s daily life, “all we have is today, so let’s live it to the fullest.”

Can you pass the today’s opportunity to shine yourself if you know that it will not come back to you again?

How many people do you think you can meet in your life time? When will be the next time you can meet again these people that you talked with today?

If you think about it for a moment, don’t you think you rather grab the opportunity right away and talk to every people with the best intentions?

Consider every meeting and encounter is the first and the last. You must treasure every encounter as it can be the last time in your life. Enjoy every encounter because it may not come to you again.

There is no more opportunity but only this time.

Even though you can meet a person you several times, you cannot have the same time with this person again. Today’s coffee talk, today’s date, today’s dinner…

It is so valuable to share the time with the person because it only happens once in your life time. Today’s coffee talk, today’s date, and today’s dinner never comes back again.

Ryuuji - Road to Otenjo - Southeast of Town

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

"Core Energy Filter damaged, repairs recommended. Core Energy Filter damaged, repairs recommended. Core Energy Filter damaged, repairs recommend- bbbzzzzztttt- Core has resumed normal functionality."

"Ah, there we go. Merely a temporary setback." Kunio spoke as he closed up access to your core, putting the frame of your armor back on its place as he began to screw it back in. The Kikai carefully assessed the rest of your systems over with his eyes before he backed up, extending a hand to help you up. Nothing too serious, or so Kunio explained. You found yourself running out of air on the way over, despite being on a steady, slow march. Concerned for your health, the leader of the Kikai stopped to have a look, finding the problem to be a damaged air filter in your core, probably a result of the previous encounter with some bandits you had on the road here to Otenjo. They weren't a big threat, but one of them had managed to land an arrow dangerously close to your core...Guess it wasn't as harmless as it looked then.

You took in your surroundings, you were on a small road walking by a bunch of rice fields just outside Otenjo, a big bridge just up ahead was the way in. Around you were Kunio and two other Kikai, Takeba and Juro. Kunio suggested you all travel on a small group for this meeting, it was important to show we were willing to put down our arms and come to an agreement he said. It's a bit of a disregard for the tactical advantage you're finding yourself in, but there wasn't really many places in Nippon that could really be considered neutral ground for Kikai and the organics, anyways.

Still, this party, while capable, wasn't exactly something that could stand a well-prepared ambush. Juro carried a large odachi on his back, covered in light armor, you fought alongside him a few times, he was quick and could swing that sword surprisingly fast, too. He is the Kikai's military strategist, you got a few orders from him over the past few years, though you hadn't fought beside him until just earlier. Takeba was someone you didn't talk too much with personally, but knew a fair bit about. She was Kunio's spymaster, of sorts. She handled intelligence, espionage and sabotage, though she seemed to be able to handle herself just fine in direct combat too, as you were able to see on the encounter with the bandits. She was covered up in some medium armor. Then there was Kunio himself, wearing nothing but the clothing on his back a dagger around his waist, though you knew for a fact that the leader of the Kikai had a few tricks up his sleeve, literally, in case necessary.

"Can you stand?" Kunio questioned, still holding out his hand for you. "We are nearly there." Juro let out an audible sigh. "See, this is why I prefer not getting hit at all. Even if you shrug it off at the moment, that stuff leaves scars on your system. I'd rather not be spending so much on repairs." Takeba crossed her arms, huffing at Juro. "Maybe he wouldn't need repairs if you went for their back line right away like we told you to." Juro scratched the back of his head some. "And dive right into a bunch of guys with spears? Yeah no, I'm quick, but I can't dodge five people at once."

"No one is to blame but the bandits themselves." Kunio concluded, not wanting the argument to escalate any further.

Kagomi, Nori and Seto - Otenjo Police Department - Long Building to the Northeast of Town, within city walls

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

So, long story short. Local middle-class merchant had a shop set up, right? Well, seems like some local thief saw that he was still setting things up and decided to give him a warm welcome to Otenjo, by breaking in and stealing a bunch of mon from his coffers. Exactly five hundred mon, to be exact, which now rested peacefully in the pockets of one of you...Well, one of you five Hengeyokai all currently sitting in the Police Department, in line to be interrogated. You see, the one thing that the merchant claimed to have seen about the robber was that they had big fluffy ears, a tail and breasts. Which...Narrows down the suspect to a Hengeyokai. Since Hengeyokai aren't exactly famous for being upstanding citizens...Well.

The local thief-catchers ended up just rounding up all the hengeyokai they could find close to the area and have taken all of you for questioning. So now here you are, sitting your tail down on this chair, waiting for these damn racist humans to realize that you're not actually a thief...Well...At least, four of you aren't. Kagomi, on the other hand, oho. Oh you. Your pockets were currently 500 mon heavier than they were when you arrived to Otenjo like...Yesterday. Luckily for you, you had just arrived alongside with some merchant who figured it'd be just a great idea to leave his door unlocked while he left to get something to eat. Idiot. One way or another, you weren't out free just yet! You needed to first figure a way out of this damn interrogation...The police probably wouldn't just let you skip out like this until they found their suspect or concluded that the thief wasn't among the five of you...That would take some work...Well, alternatively you could just wait for the right chance to make a run for it.

Looking around the room, there's also other four Hengeyokai. Seto, the young Hakken, seemed to have gotten herself on the wrong place at the wrong time...Again. Why just today she had decided she was going to try and put up some pamphlets for dojo, do some marketing, you know, spread the word. Of course, just right on that day, someone just HAD to go and rob another person and who would the police search for? All Hengeyokai, of course. Darn it! They would never give this type of treatment to other humans, the asswipes! She has a dojo to bring back to glory, can't be wasting time with this nonsense!

Next up in line was Nori...So much for the whole "world where everyone is accepted by everyone" deal. Right as she had arrived into town, she ended up getting pulled into this mess. Heck, she hadn't even been able to find lodging around this place yet! Though, it's not like she could really put up much of a resistance, they were the police, after all and well, if her cooperating helped them find this thief faster...All the better for everyone, right? Regardless, this still wasn't exactly the best situation to get oneself into, especially with how long she had been taking to get this over with!

There was also a small white haired kitsune, like, really small. Despite apparently claiming to be a Hengeyokai of adult age, you could almost just say she was a poncle! Well, okay no, she wasn't that small but she was like...Four feet tall, it was ridiculous. She wasn't even sitting on the chair, rather, she was just standing on top of it, her arms crossed as she tapped her foot impatiently, waiting for her turn to be called over.

Last, but not least, there was a fifth Hengeyokai who was the first to be interrogated and was just now coming out of the room, she had short black hair and seemed...Very nervous, to say the least. Probably why she was called first, really. Regardless, she walked out of the room, alongside with the Police's Chief Investigator, Captain Sou Kazukiyo, who dismissed the girl with a dismissive wave of his hand. "You're clear to go, but don't try to leave town until we solve this robbery, this is your only warning." He spoke, not even looking up at the girl, who just nodded her head nervously. "S-Sir, yes sir!" Before she scampered off, shaking. Sou looked up at the other four of you. "Next." He called, waiting to see which of you would offer yourselves up for it.

Kentata, Kyoko and Izumi - Mifune (Three Ships) Eatery - Red Roof Building, South of Town, within city walls

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Ahhh...Mifune Eatery. Also known as Three Ships Eatery, the best place in Otenjo for mercenaries, ronin, thieves and a fair few other low lives such as yourselves. No offense meant, of course. The place wasn't that big, but damn did the owner know how to use the space well. Clients were received and served in the counter, a long wooden counter where a fair few people had their meals, sushi and ramen were the highlights of the restaurant. The local highlight was the "Three Ships" itself, a special order for 100 mon where one would receive three small wooden miniature ships filled to the brim with sushi and gyoza, if you managed to eat the whole thing in less than 10 minutes the order was free! ...Sadly, no one had been known to actually be able to finish the thing in time...Like...Ever.

Regardless, another thing that made this place special was the fact it was the meeting place for mercenaries, due to the massive job board held on the wall opposite to the counter. It was a massive blackboard filled with a bunch of different notes, listing a bunch of odd jobs and assignments the local people wanted done in exchange for some cash. Currently, the jobs available were:

- Investigate Rice Disappearances - 300 mon - A bunch of the rice farmers have been going missing as of late, they just randomly have been disappearing and it has been raising a lot of worry to the farmers, some have started refusing to even go to work until the reason for the disappearances is discovered. Additionally, rice farmers aren't the only ones disappearing, rice itself has gone missing, as well. Large stocks of rice are just disappearing over night and no one knows why. The police is not bothering to check up on the situation since it's outside of the town, so we're looking for third party help.

- Killing Casual Killing - 500 mon - A band of ronin have been reported to have settled in the forest Southwest of Otenjo, normally this wouldn't be such a problem, but there have been reports of them trying out the edge of their swords on local passerbies for fun and sport...And for testing their swords edge. Captain Sou Kazukiyo set up a reward for whoever can bring him proof of death of the ronin's leader.

- "Spice" Delivery - 400 mon - I need a package of special spices delivered to a house outside of town. I'd do it myself but the package is a bit "heavy" for me, looking for "able" workers...Who know how to wield "weapons" *The word weapon is struck over* "Protection", because of the local "wildlife". Just take the package and deliver it, not interested in answering questions! Especially from police!

Yaena, Miho and Tomoe - Otenjo Castle Third Floor - Floor 3/5

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

"And then I told her? Dog Yokai? The way you suck dick, you're better off just saying you're a BITCH yokai! HAHAHAAHA!"

One of the many lords currently meeting in this hall said, laughing alongside a few others as they all drank another round of sake. The rest of the room was filled with other lords, who made jokes and comments of roughly the same caliber. The more drunk they got, the worse it turned, especially for the six Courtesans currently serving the party. Yaena was one of them, she took a deep breath and simply continued to do her job, providing them with drinks and entertainment as this little party continued, she had been lucky so far not to get anyone trying to take her to bed, well, at least, no one who tried it too aggressively. The few who did lacked the attention span to go through with it after their cups were refilled with sake once more. Still, you had been lucky to have landed this opportunity, a chance to serve at a party where the Emperor Ken Izanagi himself was present? Few people got this kind of chance in a lifetime. Even if not much came out of it, you still had a nice sum of 500 mon waiting for you by the end of today, if all went fine and dandy.

Tomoe found herself sitting amidst the other lords, hearing their banter and shouting, their drinking and joking. How she approached this entire situation was entirely up to her, of course. The fact a bunch of strange lords she had never spoken to before were now drinking in the halls which were, technically, hers, made her a tad uncomfortable. But as long as Ken Izanagi was here, the castle belonged to him, so there wasn't much you could chime in about the matter. Speaking of Ken, you spotted him up at the top of the table, drinking some sake himself, with his oni advisor by his side, apparently choosing to remain sober. You hadn't a chance to speak to the Emperor yourself yet, maybe this was an opportunity to do so. Alternatively, Tomoe could take the chance everyone was piss drunk by this point to slip out, surely no one would miss her if she went out for a walk, right?

Miho was along with her father here, participating in the party with the other lords. Her father seemed to be enjoying himself at the moment, reminiscing the young Emperor of his days back at their Dojo. The two of you stood out a fair bit in there, what with all the others being either high-ranking lords or Courtesans, but being friends of the Emperor landed you and your father into a few conversations and, soon, any semblance of difference in status had been temporarily forgotten thanks to interpersonal communication. "So." Ken spoke up, taking another sip of his sake. "I take it young, beautiful Miho will be participating in the tournament, yes? I'm sure the Ran have a thing or two to show everyone for a good show, yes?" He laughed, looking up at Miho as he expected an answer from her.

Puu - Whorehouse (Nobuhiro "Teahouse") - Extreme Northeast of Town, outside city walls, blue roof

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

"Welcome to the Nobuhiro Teahouse! Do any of us take your liking?" Puu was greeted as she entered the small little house by the outskirts of the village, greeted by a wide variety of young hengeyokai, human and even poncle maidens. Now, here's the thing, the people who sent her here told she should come here if she was looking for "wives". Somehow, you get the feeling that these aren't exactly "wives", though...Well, they're certainly pretty, that's for sure! Strangely enough, they had asked Puu if any of them struck her liking...Which was a weird question for a "Tea House" as this place claimed to be. Weird...Very weird.

Oh well. Regardless, you had a selection right here in front of you, and you had to pick one of them, apparently. Oh, there was also that weird part about them taking your 100 mon on the way in. Entry fee to the teahouse or something...Weird stuff, really.

Sivir - Gojou Katsunaga's Smithy - Northwest of Town, outside of the city walls

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Sivir found herself...Watching, for once. Gojou was currently working on something of his own, a odachi, or so he called it. Apparently it was a gift to some "Emperor" who was around town for now. "A fine gift for a ruler! If he likes it, it will be great for my smithy!" You curiously glanced over his shoulder at his handiwork it was...Alright. Nothing quite as glorious as the Kanabo you had forged a few days earlier, but not everyone can be dawned with inspiration from a god, I suppose. Still, the man's work was nothing to be sneezed at, he was definitely putting his blood and soul into that blade, in fact, you knew for a fact he had been working on it for quite a while now, this was his second or third attempt at it this week, in fact, he was definitely striving for perfection.

You watched Gojou fold the metal plates over and over as he shaped up the blade, slowly but steadily giving it form as the iron still burned red and hot, slowly tempering the blade. His beard was tidily kept in a knot and his hair was also held back in a ponytail as he worked the forge, sweat running down his brows before he pulled out the shimmering piece of metal from the forge, quenching it in oil quickly and swiftly, as he had taught you, the faster the blade is quenched, the harder the sword would be and it was important for it to be as hard as possible, as the process of folding the blade repeatedly with different layers of iron needed to properly treated for it to achieve maximum quality.

Afterwards, came the reheating, where he once again let the blade heat up to a good temperature before carefully placing it on a small hanger for it to slowly cool its way back down to room temperature. "Well...Now comes the waiting part." He concluded, cleaning off the soot and sweat from his face with a cloth before he turned to Sivir herself, looking up at her. "I'm going to go into town and see about getting myself that wooden scabbard I commissioned a few days ago, it should be ready by now, yes?" He pondered out loud, not really expecting you to answer. "Would you like to accompany me, Sivir-san? I'm sure some time away from the forge would be nice, too, breathe some fresh air and what not. Or you can stay and take care of the sword while I'm gone, I shouldn't be long but...Well, I've heard of bandits around recently, you know that word right, bandits? Bad people." He took a deep breath. "Might be a good idea for one of us to stay and take care of things while the other is gone. Wouldn't want to leave the house unguarded now, would we?"

Coming back to the world after he'd been shut off, dead to everything including himself, Ryuuji curses the constant whining of some neutral voice in his head. Once was enough to know repairs were recommended. Hearing the voice of his master and the leader of his people, the Kikai juggernaut looks upon the sleek clothed form of Kunio. Taking the offered hand he stands, fully aware that his master's body could handle his sizeable weight. Takeba and Juro spoke among themselves about the prior battle speaking of what was best and apparently throwing blame anywhere but at themselves. Hearing Kunio's stance on the matter Ryuuji shakes his head. "No, being injured from such minor threats is truly an embarrassment. I will endeavor to improve myself so that it may never occur again. As Kikai, as something more than human, that much is necessary. I thank you for your kind words, Master Kunio but I will accept the Master Juro's words. You already honor me by allowing a foot soldier such as myself to accompany you. I shall be certain to break any blade aimed at you until my body no longer functions."

With his heartfelt promise issued he looks over the group, admiring the way the three Kikai moved in such human-like bodies. The level of their modification unknown to him. His own body was more rigid, built to take punishment on a massive scale and what organic material that was left couldn't survive without their mechanical counterparts. "I can certainly walk, Masters. And should another such encounter befall us, I will gladly 'dive into a bunch of guys with spears' for the sake of each of you. While I am not as capable with words or strategy as any of you, my actions will show our resolve has not faded. All of Nippon is changing. Truthfully I find it odd to be speaking of peace after these twenty years of life. With no battle to prepare for on the horizon, I am thankful you offered me a place in your company for this trip." He nods his head to each of the three before waving a hand ahead, showing that they should move on toward their goal within the city limits.

Puu was getting the feeling she had been tricked somehow. Sure, there were beautiful women here, and they seemed eager enough to be chosen, but losing the last of her life savings seemed a bit odd just for entrance into a teahouse. When asked directly if any of them made her fancy, she blushed a little and wished she new little more about humans and society. She only had a limited time in her own village before moving to the forest. She was the only one left, and she had to do this to remake what had been lost to the world! With a nod and a brief look of determination, she hugs her trusty solid iron club. "D-do I-I have to chose?" She asks shakily, obviously nervous and new to the situation. Her reluctance to choose a single woman could almost be mistaken as trying to get more then one girl, but really, she was bad at making 'tough' decisions.

Kentata walked into the Mifune eatery. He'd picked up on the places reputation even in his short time in town. His stomach growled as it saw the food laid out over the bar, but he needed a way to make more money before he started spending any. The board was in clear view making it easy to find. Perusing over it he sneered. All of them were on the low end, but he was new in town and had no connections yet, and that was what he needed. Dead rice farmers and stolen rice. The stolen rice ruled out wild animals, so it was probably some bandits. Ronin to be dealt with but it seemed only the leader was worth anything. Of course there was no way he was getting at the leader without taking on some of his goons, and that seemed too much trouble with the paltry 500 offered. He certainly wouldn't consider it without backup and that meant splitting the take meaning less mon in his wallet.

Then there was this moron. There was no way this third request was anything but illicit goods, and anyone could figure that out just for reading it. He actually felt the need to put quotation marks around his code words as if Kentata didn't know what spices that needed to be moved out of the city for 400 mon implied. The man couldn't even bother to get a new sheet of paper when he decided not to explicitly write weapon in, but it was still there clear as day under the scratch for all to see, but it did intrigue him. Even if he was a moron he had 400 mon to blow just getting these spices out of the city, and he had to have connections to someone who could manage to keep him out of jail while dealing in drugs. It may not have been the best paying job there, but it was likely to let someone know he was around and more than able, and that was probably worth more than the money itself, not that he'd let the man offering the job know that. He grabbed the sheet of paper from the board. He didn't need a cop stumbling on this before he'd finished the job. Plus no competition can sweep the job out from under him. Of course he didn't need to be caught with the paper if he got searched on the street if a cop decided he looked 'too mean', so he quickly tore the paper into scrap before putting it in his mouth and swallowing. If anyone decided to give him a look for the weird action he's simply grumble for a moment before mumbling half to himself, "Hungrier 'n I thought."

Now he really needed something to eat. Turning back to the counter he considered his meal choices. The "Three Ships" tempted him, but as hungry as he was he wasn't going to gamble all of his remaining 100 mon on his appetite for nothing more than a free meal. He decided to be stingy this time in case this job didn't pan out in the end. He decided to see what food and drink he could get for just 10 mon before sitting down to enjoy something that tasted better than paper and ink.

Chiyome watched the crowd with a hint of fascination. Lords, they were, who presided over the peasant man. And yet, here they were, making fools amongst themselves in the presence of the Emperor himself. This was truly entertaining. When she saw the courtesans arrive earlier in the day, she had half a thought to bring out her own costume she had hidden under one of the tatami mats and join in. An entertaining thought, but ultimately, she didn't want to have herself exposed as a where to the public. Instead she decided to greet the Emperor and advisor, and made her way towards them. She did make a mental note to find her handmaid. She had been in and out of her sight all day today, and that irritated her, just a tad.

She had only met her distant cousin once, and that was when they were children. She doubted that he remembered the encounter, or of her, but she wouldn't hold it against him. Being a lord was tiring enough for her, so he must have gone through many obstacles, so forgetting a minor encounter was very likely. "Greetings, Esteemed Emperor Izanagi. Advisor Pang Xin," she said with a bow. "I am Tomoe Chiyome, lord of this castle. I pray that everything has been seen to for you two this day?"

He's really working hard on this piece... Maybe I should hunt him a fat creature so he can keep his strength up? Sivir mused as she watched him slave away at his attempt for a perfect odachi. He said it was for a client but it could have had something to do with the fact that she, herself had crafted a masterpiece only a few days ago and now he wanted to match her. Pride was a very human thing after all. The reason, however didn't really concern Sivir much as long as Gojou didn't overexert himself on her watch. A watch that she was doing from a few feet behind him and in perfect position for the sun to come through the window and heat up her back as she laid on all fours of her lower body like a majestic lioness. "If you say this emperor of men will help your business greatly then why don't you let me bring him a slain bear for him to eat and wear alongside your item of labor. Surely that will increase the impact of gratitude shown towards your gift, no?" Her tail slowly swishing to the sides as she reveled in the idea taking a bear down with her kanabo. The cow she had broken with one swing hadn't even the sense to flee or fight but a bear could provide an iota of a challenge, they had always been fun to wrestle down and kill when she had lived in the wilderness. "That can be for later. I'll just watch for now and make sure you don't skip any steps or make any mistakes that could lower the value of the weapon you are trying to create." Running her top hands over the simple cloth gown she wore to maintain modesty around the man before folding them as she settled in to watch every move the man made.

It took him the average time to finish but Sivir didn't spot any missed steps or flaws in the craftsmanship by the time Gojou placed the sword on the hanger to cool. He had truly worked his hardest on this project, a good meal would have to be hunted for him to ensure his strength came back and he felt someone's gratitude for his hard work, humans often forgot to show gratitude to others for their services after all. Then he posed a choice to her. He asked her if she wanted to accompany him to pick up his commissioned scabbard, which she did since every time she left the smithy she learned something new and she enjoyed Gojou's company as well as discouraging others from trying to intimidate or prey on him. However he brought up concern of bandits near the shop, basically illegal and outcast warriors that preyed mostly on other humans for currency but not sustenance, and if he was bringing it up then it was something to worry about. It was difficult but Sivir felt that making sure this item that Gojou had spent so much time perfecting, remained where it was for his own well-being and the continued fortune of the shop which Gojou also depended on for currency. "I will stay with the shop. If you are still the man that I captured years ago then you should be able to hold your own against your fellow humans, samurai or not." Delivering her assessment of his survival chances with a sense of certainty. "If any do come to the shop with ill-intent then I will do my best to try persuading them to direct their idiocy elsewhere like you taught me. Otherwise I will do my best to leave them alive for your police forces to collect later but if I have to use my kanabo then I doubt there will be anything left besides bone meal." Glancing at her mighty and glowing kanabo in the corner of the smithy. She did relish the chance to test her kanabo on some humans as some actually knew how to use tactics but knew Gojou wouldn't approve of anyone she killed in close proximity to the shop as it would give the store a bad reputation. Maybe she could eat all of the evidence? As the humans said, 'only time will tell.' Which meant..... That only the future knew what the future held? Humans could be so overly complex with their words sometimes.

"Just make sure you stay safe and hurry." She said with a frown and annoyance clear in her voice from trying to decipher the riddle of the human phrase. "It won't do for you to fall to your kin or dally too long and it won't do for me to slaughter too many of your kin. You humans already have a natural dislike for your unliving comrades and the beast-people, none would benefit from me joining that 'sentiment'?" Unsure if she had used the last word right.

Miho tried to keep abreast of the conversation going on around her through the soft fuzz on her alcohol fuelled buzz, laughing along when appropriate regardless of whether the joke was funny, but remaining silent otherwise. She drank as much as custom dictated but no more, knowing her duty here was to protect and look after her father who had discarded his usual temperance. Initially she had been concerned for him, being seated in such a high place of honour by the Emperor could have caused jealous incidents and proximity of the Emperor's Oni adviser could have been another point of contention. Miho was thankful the sake the hand loosened tongues and the conversations kept personal.

Miho blushed as she realized the Emperor was directly addressing her while she'd been lost in thought, comparing the man to the boy who had once been her training partner at the dojo.

"As you command, Emperor." She bowed, her brain skipping over the beautiful remark, "I am always prepared to do you service."

Her cheeks flushed red as she suddenly realised the possible double meaning of her words and hoped none of the jostling lords had picked up on it as she quickly downed her cup of sake to hide her face. Thankful for the female lord who came up and called the Emperor's attention.

Kagomi cursed her luck, just when it seemed things were getting good she had to go and get caught with her hood off. Yesterday had been a god-send in her opinion, some moron merchant left his stuff unprotected so she could just slip in and snag some cash, not like he'd miss it as he most likely had a bunch more and she only stole like, 500 right? Of course the jerk had apparently saw her at the last moment as she rushed out... but given she dealt with the pain of looking human whenever someone pulled her hood off she figured she'd be find. The ONE second she'd not been paying attention she'd been spotted however and then forced here... and now she had to find a way to get out of this without ending up hunted by an entire city. As much as she'd love to just slip off, they knew what she looked like and she didn't want to be sneaking about her whole time here... not if she intended to make the fortune she knew she could get from the Tournament itself. She'd have to lie and lie well, make it seem like she wasn't the one whom had done this, maybe even find a way to pin it on one of the others if need be. She felt a bit of guilt hitting her at that, given they were the same... yet seeing the big breasted samurai looking girl it was clear this wasn't so... no doubt SHE was somehow treated well if she could afford a weapon like that, right? Besides, in this world everyone could only rely on themselves.

As the man whom seemed to be leading the investigation came out, releasing the poor girl he had interrogated, Kagomi considered her options. She figured she could offer herself up now and just bullshit her way out... it's not like they'd have any evidence to hold her and she'd lived the sort of life where she'd gotten amazing at lying her way out of situations... yet this guy seemed a lot more professional, which made her leery... still it was going to happen anyways, so with a mental sigh she put on her best nervous expression, holding a hand up," I-I'll go... if that's um, okay?", She offered, doing her best to appear scared and yet complying as she got to her feet, slowly moving over while mentally steeling herself... she could get past this, get out, and the moment she swiped all she needed from the Tournament she could slip the hell out of the city... what could go wrong?

Yaena was making her way through the dining hall, swaying past the other courtesans to leave no table unattended for too long, the feat a dance in itself with the increasingly louder commotion that drunkenness could spring from men in an occasion such as this.

The kitsune courtesan had not changed much in the past 60 years. Her ageless face shone the same calming, almost serene smile as she concealed her exhaustion with the precision of a trained courtesan, her steps as graceful even though her legs ached, her eyes as alert though her lids were jaded, her kimono - though folded to be slightly less revealing under the circumstances, flowed around the contours of her hips and brought about the amplitude of her chest for whoever enjoyed such a sight. And there had been many who did. Perhaps for the other courtesans, being in a place like this enchanted them, for they had the chance to gain favours with people they could never meet anywhere else, but for the Lady Kay, this held little appeal, for she had already spent many days and nights with nobles from among these, and came to know their minds and hears and ways of life. Admittedly, in most cases these high-ranked lords placed themselves under quite a lot more restraint, though it seems that now the sake poured freely into their mouths and let their tongues loose and wiggle. The biting words that they uttered, Yaena did not take to heart, but they bothered her upon the thought that such enmity still burned in men, though the sadness within her was kept as sheated as the blades of her Tessen, which lay quietly by her side like an innocent tool, though ready as always in case the dire need arose for her to use it in a different way than to fan herself with on a searing day. Not that it happened often. But something made her carry it around always, even though a part of her wanted to store it somewhere safe like a cherished memory. In this case, she found herself within a place where political unrest might spiral out of control, and she was not about to go unarmed, no matter what the guards said.

Which brought her mind to the real reason of her coming here, considered between the painted screen of drink and songs. The tournament. An event that struck in her mind a dreadfully wrong cord, despite the fact that it seems to represent a chance for her deepest desire at this moment - peace. But what is really peace that the Emperor and Kunio were after? Or maybe they were, but more ominous forces lay in the dark, ready to tear Nippon apart into the gulf of war.

Such a thought - no, feeling - unsettled her deeply, and whilst she was clueless as to what she herself could do to try and prevent this possible future, she knew, false modesty aside, that her skills could come of use, and she wanted to be here in case they were needed - not only for herself, but for everyone who desired an end to pain and conflict.

Gazing across the chamber, Yaena's eyes were caught by a noblewoman that sat admist the other lords, though her demeanour set her apart. She did not appear to be drunk or rowdy, but entertained by what she was seeing, and Yaena remember that she had seen her eyes the courtesans earlier in the day. Watching her move over to the Emperor, his advisor and current two companions, the foxwoman carefully approaches herself, not directly of course, but rather shaping her way through poured glasses, small-talk and flirtation from one customer to the other, until she could position herself in a place where she could hear what they were saying.

If this was any moment for her to cry, she would be bawling out her eyes right now.

Nori was simply coming into town, riding on top of her trusty mare Snowdrops, all to make a home for herself and eventually work out dealing with the nasty prejudice her kind has earned over the years. It is a simple goal, but one that's an uphill battle given that a lot of these people are stubborn to their traditions and won't budge without someone to push back. It's very unlikely that Nori herself can do it, even if she does have the experience of fighting back and a rather noteworthy title, as she's too kind and soft to really get any resistance against this racism going. However she knows that many of her kind are sick with this and want proper treatment, so she'll work her tail off to make sure that all the good hengeyokai get the respect they rightfully deserve!

Of course this would be great if she wasn't immediately harassed by the police the moment she arrived into town. The gall of them, accusing her of stealing despite just arriving in town out of peaceful intentions. She never know about this merchant before, so why would she even be charged outside of her matching up with the vague description the merchant provided. Yes she has all the features, but that could apply to any other female hengeyokai that are in the area. Not to mention it's not in her character to even steal anything from anyone, only willing to pay for her goods like anyone else living in the city and make her leave without any troubles.

Now she is sitting in the police office, tears building up in her eyes as she waits for her turn and explain to these cops that she hasn't done a single thing outside of taking a few steps in on her horse. She really doesn't want to spend any longer than she wanted to be in here, and if she can get out of her quicker, she'll take it. Working with the police is actually a good start, but this means ratting out one of her own kind. However they broke the law, so they need to pay the price for their crime and it goes against what Nori is striving for. Yes, the moment it's her turn, she'll calmly explain herself to the officers, give her alibi in all of this and work with them to catch the thief and get on out to explore the city.

Then again, there is something rather strange with this group of hengeyokai here. All of the woman here appear to be what they are, female hengeyokai... except for one. Well, she thinks she is what she said she is, but they're lacking a certain part to bear the name she carries. Nori's nose is rather keen on this yet she kept this information to herself. At least it is taken her mind off of the trouble she's not in.

Seto was plenty irritated with this whole situation. She wasn't acting particularly impatient, like the white-haired runt that stood upon her seat. Hengeyokai were particularly hard to judge, something she had learned the hard way many times over. The little brat could easily be her senior by a hundred years. The mind and voice stay just as fresh as the flesh does for members of her race. One of the five accused had already been absolved and just as quickly as the raven haired girl made her exit, another was eager to take her place. Well, timidly eager, but still willing. And my oh my was she a cute one. Short brown hair, dainty little ears, and a nice big soft tail. She fit the bill for the robber, but then again so did all the other hengeyokai here. But whoever this merchant was he was wasting his time and the police officers time. What kind of description is; ears, tail, and breasts? None of them looked anything alike. Seto had long blond hair, the runt had white hair, the scared girl had short black hair, the next girl in line had brown hair, and the poor girl that looked about to cry had long black hair. Not to mention Seto was desperately lacking in the breast department. Sure when she was naked they stood out, but while she was dressed her chest was quite petite. Only two out of the five could even be mistaken for one another, and you'd have to be half blind.

Regardless of the poor evidence and even poorer circumstances, she was here. And her defense wasn't great. She had gone to a print shop to make a whole bunch of pamphlets at sunrise and had spent most of the morning distributing them. She really hadn't expected to be rounded up in this mess. There was still a chance that some of her sensei's students may show up for lunch and practice, and not only did she not have anything to cook, she was rather certain that she would be detained until after lunch time. With the hot number making her way to the interrogation room, and the little white-haired runt looking angry as ever, Seto slid herself over next to the Inu girl. She was no Hakken, but she was better than a Kitsune.

"Kon'nichiwa." Began Seto with a slight bow, "You must be new to Otenjo, watashi Seto." She said while gesturing towards herself. "I see by your garments that you have served under a Shogun, what is your name honorable warrior?" She asked politely. Having a samurai around at the dojo could be extremely helpful, even just knowing a fellow Hengeyokai who had served would come in handy.

Weariness had been a feeling that Izumi had been unable to escape for a long time now. True, she had never been well rested before all this, from training in the sword, to preparing to go to war, to learning to fight with one arm during her recovery. But she had never felt so truly weary even through all this until she had been cast out and become a wanderer. Traveling for 20 years would do that to a person naturally, but it was more than any physical tiredness. The hatred and fear that people felt for her, the things she had done to survive, the innocent lives she had taken, they all weighed down on her soul and she was just so tired of it all.

Today had been different though. Oh sure, the scenery was the same, nervous glances at her arm while the people gave her a wide berth, a restaurant where shady types like herself gathered to find work, the jobs ranging from killings to drug trafficking were all too familiar to Izumi. But there was a certain hope that she felt today that seemed to lift all that weariness from her soul. Sitting down at the counter of the Mifune Eatery felt like she was finally resting at the end of a very long day. This tournament was gonna solve all her problems, she could just feel it! All she had to do was wait for it's beginning, killing some time with a job or two from here would help keep the anticipation from driving her mad until then. Hunting down the ronin who were committing murders outside the city seemed like the most appealing job to her as it paid the most and murdering murderers was the closest thing to respectable work she'd had in years.

But Izumi was in no rush. She would enjoy a nice meal and sit for a spell to savor her good mood while it lasted. Sitting at the counter and setting her trusty blade to rest against it, she would make sure to keep her right arm hidden underneath, she was in a good mood but not so stupidly naive as to think people would accept a Kikai around here after all. "I'd like some tea please. And some ramen too. Whatever you'd recommend is fine." She orders, fishing in her pockets to set some coin on the counter with her left hand to show that she could afford to pay. While she waited for her food to arrive, she also slipped her pipe out of her pocket, packing it with tobacco and striking a match to light it under the counter before bringing it up to her lips. A pleased sigh escaped her mouth as she inhaled and then exhaled a puff of smoke. It would take a hell of a lot to bring her out of this good mood of hers.

Ryuuji

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Takeba and Juro both seemed a bit ashamed as they heard you take the blame, Juro even scratching the back of his head a bit. "Nothing to be embarrassed about, brother." The strategist replied, while not actually your brother, you knew for a fact he had the habit of addressing other Kikai as if they were family, supposedly he called Kunio "Pops" now and then, though you hadn't happened to hear it yet. "Ain't like any of us are expected to be bulletproof or something. I guess I could've done a little bit better back there..." Takeba shook her head. "Let's hope we don't run into any more trouble. We're close to the city now, just across the river, see?" She stated, pointing over with a nudge of her head. Kunio nodded in agreement, once more turning to Ryuuji with a somber expression...Well, as somber as he could be, really, his face didn't really have many articulations at all. His most defining facial feature for telling his mood was the light of his eyes, which went dimmer or brighter depending on his tone.

"At any rate..." The prophet spoke. "Yes, let us hope we don't have any more confrontations from now on. I had hoped for a swift and straight to the point trip. We sign the treaty with Emperor Ken, stay to watch the tournament as a sign of respect then we head on our way home and begin our exodus." He stated, raising a finger. "I'm thinking maybe we could look for a colony in the large continent to the far west...China, I believe it was called. With a land so large, there surely will be some space for us to settle down our own community." The Prophet spoke, beginning to walk ahead, hands behind his back. Juro sighed some. "Isn't that place filled with Onis? I mean, not that I have anything against them but...They're not exactly the friendliest of neighbors we could go for." The spymaster once again shook her head. "I doubt it'll get to another war like this one, though, so maybe put your oni prejudice aside, yes?"

"Hey, back in my time, Oni were a bunch of savages who were feared by everyone. Not my fault a few years and some good publicity got them all hunky dory with the people all of a sudden. Come to think of it, why can't WE get a publicity campaign like that, you should add that as part of the treaty, Kunio." The prophet let out a long, tired sigh. Eventually, you all found yourselves at one side of the Otenjo Bridge, a massive bridge which allowed crossing over the river and led into the town proper...It was...Quite long. The four Kikai slowly began making their way across. "Once we're off on our own place...I think I'll be setting up a school." Juro said, his hands behind his head. "A school? And you fancy yourself a teacher since when?" Takeba questioned, in-between chuckles. "Hey!" Juro interjected. "I taught plenty of Kikai how to better position themselves around the battlefield myself...And how to fight! Who's to say I can't teach like...Math?"

Takeba shook her head. "I think I'll...I think I might go and write a book about all that's happened...Start building our own culture, you know." Kunio nodded in approval to both ideas. "That all sounds wonderful, my pupils...What about you, Ryuuji, any plans for the future?" The Prophet asked curiously, as the four of you were slowly approaching the entrance to the town. Once you were close enough, the first things the guards did instantly was reach for their weapons, how typical, this only caused Juro and Takeba to reach for theirs as well. Kunio let out a tired sigh and spoke up. "Greetings!" He announced, with open arms. "I am Kunio, I come here on behalf of the Kikai, so that we may discuss the treaty with Emperor Ken Izanagi...Surely, you were told?" The guards seemed to ease up a bit and nodded, one of them taking out a big horn and taking a deep breath before blowing it, letting the whole city know that they had arrived. Slowly, the gate to Otenjo began to open and you all made your way inside, just as you walked in, you could already see a bunch of civilians vacating the streets, heading into their homes and running away from you.

Boy, this was gonna be a long day.

Puu

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

"...Yes dear, you do have to pick." The Poncle stated, crossing her arms with a big frown. "As much as we'd all LOVE to do some group fun, you only paid a 100 mon, that's the rules." She stated, looking up at you with a hint of confusion. The fox girl seemed to hum slightly as she waited for you to make your decision. "Are you nervous? No need to be, dear. I assure you, we all know how to treat you just right." She stated, nodding her head. The human girl shrugged her shoulders. "Been a while since I saw an oni around...Even more a girl one. Been a while since I've been with another woman, too. Nice change of pace, I suppose." There was also a bit of a sound, which got the girls to look at each other some, but which you didn't know the meaning for, a loud horn, which echoed around, seemingly coming from the city's gates. "...Looks like the scrapyard arrived." The Poncle mumbled crossing her arms.

Kentata, Kyoko and Izumi

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

With the mission now safely stored in his stomach, Kentata proceeded to find himself a seat at the table, where, using up 10 mon, he got himself a cup of warm cup of ramen from the counter, the waitress and cook of the Three Ships Eatery, Ruki, delivered it to him with a big smile on her face as she did. "There you go! Eat it all up! And no more eating the jobs out of the board, if you please..." She requested, squinting her eyes at him with a big frown.

http://www.zerochan.net/full/1998782

Just as you were about to chow down, a loud horn suddenly echoed around the whole city, causing the cook to let out a short sigh. "Sounds like the Kikai are here...This is gonna be trouble, I tell you." She stated, shaking her head some before the waitress went over to get Izumi's order as well, setting down some tea and Ramen for her, fresh out of the kitchen. "There you go, Miss. Are you another one here for the tournament as well?" The waitress questioned, seemingly genuinely curious as she gathered up the 10 mon you had placed in the table as her payment.

Chiyome, Miho and Yaena

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Ken simply laughed it up in response to Miho's comment. "Haha! Always, huh?" He continued to chuckle for a bit more and was about to say something else, but was cut off by Chiyome's appearance. "Tomoe...Tomoe...Where did I hear that before..." He pondered out loud, tapping the empty cup of sake against his chin. "Ah, of course, cousin!" He suddenly announced, jolting up from his seat and going for a rather casual hug, lifting Chiyome off the ground a little bit before letting her back down. "How you've been doing? I barely recognized you. Where's your brother? I'm sure he's also been up and about with his own businesses, no?"

He chuckled lightly some but the joy was cut off as a loud horn suddenly echoed in from the distance, the horn you were told would announce the arrival of the Kikai. Ken took a deep breath, almost instantly losing the jovial mood he had before, the entire room also suddenly felt a little bit more somber all of a sudden, before Ken went back to a big smile. "What's with the long faces, everyone? The main guests just arrived...Be sure to leave some drink for them, eh? If they...Even drink at all, I suppose." He chuckled up some, mostly by himself this time around. "Ah well...Courtesan!" He called up to Yaena, seeing her as the closest one, though, once he got a good look at her, he stopped for a bit, blinking before a big smile appeared on his face again. "Hengeyokai, huh? I don't often get to see your folk around the palace much...Do you do private shows?" Pang Xin barged in, clearing up his throat. "Ahem. Emperor, maybe you should let her do her work in peace, don't you think?" The oni advised, shooting a glance at the both of you. "Besides, I'm sure she has...Important matters to attend to, yes?"

"Hmm...We should send someone to help the Kikai on their way here, make sure they don't get lost...Any volunteers?" The Emperor asked out loud in the halls, getting mixed looks from the other lords, none really positive though.

Kagomi, Seto and Nori

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Soon, Kagomi found herself sitting in the chair across from the interrogator, the Captain, Sou. His eyepatch was loosely adjusted around his head and he glanced up at her a few times, before fiddling with the windows, making sure the light was right on the table in-between the two of them, a good deal of it shining directly down on Kagomi's face. "So...Let's begin, yeah? It shouldn't take too long...I just want to ask you a few questions about where you were at the moment of the crime..."

Kagomi Persuasion (4) Vs. Sou Awareness/Cunning (4)

Kagomi (2,6,3,10) - 3 Successes Vs. Sou (10,5,4,9) - 3 Successes TIE!

About ten minutes of high tension and questions later, she found herself still uncomfortably staring back at Sou. He had asked a bunch of questions, where you were when it happened, what you were doing in town, if you knew the merchant, what were you doing before the police brought you over...The man had asked a wide variety of questions and, with some hesitation, you managed to reply to all of them in a manner that didn't incriminate you. So while your fake alibi was concise and put you out of the crime scene, you didn't really come out with it that naturally, which clearly got the Captain a fair bit suspicious.

"Well, I-" Before he could finish, a loud horn echoed from outside, getting the Captain to let out a long pained sigh. "They're here already?! Damnit..." He seemed to scratch his nose some in thought before he just opened up the door for Kagomi to leave. "Alright furbals, you're all free to leave...With the Kikai around I need to focus on setting up security for the event..." He stated, grumbling some. "But don't think this is over, if I catch any of you in here again, then I'll know for sure who the responsible is." The merchant himself, who had been sticking around nearby barged in, quite mad. "Just like that?! What, are you going to let one of them leave with my money?!" Sou sighed. "For now, yes. Maybe next time you ought to lock your doors...Or at least put someone to watch the place while you're out."

"This is absurd! You Otenjo Police are useless!" He growled, stomping his foot in anger, Sou just shrugged his shoulders. "I try."

Sivir

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

"You're a real piece of work, Sivir-san, you know that?" The old man chuckled, toying with his beard for a bit before he simply ended up shrugging. "I'm not sure the Emperor would appreciate you hauling a bear carcass into the palace, regardless of your intentions. These high court folks are usually more interested in frivolities over utilities. I mean, if they want food they can literally just come up to anyone they want and demand it from them...Just how it works when you're high-up in the social ladder around here." He concluded, shrugging his shoulders some as he listened in to your reply concerning the defense of the house.

"That's...About as much as I could possibly ask of you, really. I'll take your word for it that you won't just club in the head anyone's head into their torso unless you have to...Thank you." He concluded, starting to gather up a few things around the smithy as he seemed to be preparing to head out, including switching out from his apron into something a little more casual, seeing as he was going into town. "I wouldn't worry too much about that...Like I told, a bunch of Shizen Foku like yourself are amidst some members of the Clergy. Remember that? Spiritual leaders and what not? Yeah." He reminded, fixing up his kimono as he was getting ready to head out. "Unless a bunch of you just start going rampage and murdering people, like Kikai and Hengeyokai once did...Well...I'm sure you'll keep your spot in the social ladder. Kind of funny, isn't it? That you're higher up in it than a bunch of people, even though you only recently even understood what it was.

"Anyways...Don't worry, I shouldn't be out for too long." He re-affirmed, before heading out of the smithy, slowly making his way down the hill as he headed into town, leaving you to watch over the smithy by yourself. Certainly enough, a few minutes passed, and then you heard the loud, deep sound of a horn, echoing from over the distance, the walls themselves, you assume. You faintly remembered Gojou mentioning that would happen once the machine people arrived, so you could only assume that was it then.

Sivir Awareness Roll (1,5,4,4,3) - 0 Successes.

Aside from that, everything kept under the ordinary as you found yourself pacing about. Guess the rumors about bandits were just that...Rumors. Hopefully, the old man would be back soon and you could actually go and take the sword to- You glanced over to the smithy only to find that the blade was no longer where she had been left! It was gone! An open window being the one other thing in there which was out of the usual, you quickly made your way to it, only to see a hooded person running their way off with the sword under their arm. You...Should probably give chase.

Kagomi did a good job of answering the questions while appearing frightened over the whole thing, using a fake alibi and basically doing all she could to come off as someone in the wrong place at the wrong time... though this guy seemed a lot more clever then most of the morons she dealt with, a part of her worried things wouldn't go so well... when the sound of the horn made her jump, not expecting it only to blink upon the Captain seemed to grumble and then just let her leave. Resisting the urge to gloat, she just nodded her head with a nervous look of relief," Y-yes sir, right sir... s-sorry sir", she stammered out, moving out slowly as she was allowed to leave with the others... of course this would just allow her the time needed to prepare for her future plans for the Tournament, then once she had enough she'd slip the hell out of the city and be well on her way to a much more comfortable time.

Once outside the station, Kagomi instantly slipped her hood up onto her head as she slipped her coat on to also hide her tail, she'd stand out less like this as the look made her look human which was just what she desired. Still though, she was a bit curious about seeing the robotic warriors she'd only heard about, considering her options before shrugging as she tried to figure out which way to go in order to see them, assuming the horn was supposed to mean they either arrived or would be shown off in some way.

Ryuuji was glad that the two high ranking Kikai stopped arguing after his words. It was nicer to see them mostly getting along when there was so many people against the both of them. Looking to Kunio, he doesn't quite understand the reason behind the dimming of his eyes though he feels a slight bit of envy at the expression allowed. Ryuuji himself was limited to body language to get across his mood as his solid black facade would do little more than reflect the image of whoever looked into it. It was quite effective for unnerving opponents but kept him from emoting in much any way that useful.

The walking continued, taking little more than the time span of another idle conversation to approach the entrance to Otenjo. He'd been only idly listening to his two superiors and companions muse about the future and their plans, silently appreciating their forethought. Though when he's addressed by Kunio himself, Ryuuji freezes up a moment. He looks at his hands before speaking, "I do not have the capacity to write a novel, nor am I understanding enough to teach. I... would like to know more of what became of the Shimada clan. Their blade rests within my arm and I am certain they were important to me in a past life. But as for something to sustain me or drive me indefinitely in the future, I have no ideas. Combat and interrogation have been all I've known for twenty long years. If I wasn't involved in one or the other, I was planning for the next time I would be called upon. I suppose I shall have the chance to explore new things. Perhaps I will become a caravan guard or sentry for some family willing to pay me. Help me see some of the world that has shunned us for so long. It hopefully will help me understand just where I wish to find myself in the future."

His words done he watches as the nervous guards announce their arrival with their horn, the odd sound rather unpleasant but nothing overly grating. When the gates were open and the streets were rapidly deserted, Ryuuji felt oddly at peace with the idea. It would have been better to see them doing their thing and observe society, but this feeling of being feared was comfortable, familiar even. "I wonder if the meeting will look similar. Fear, hate, disgust in general. Something I'm certain we've all become used to being the targets of."

The kitsune was tending to her listening until the room was filled by the echo of a distant sound - the horn that announced the arrival of the Kikai, one more step in this important day. Then she was called out by the Emperor. Walking over to him and offering him a courteous bow, she listens to his - rather clumsily cute - proposal before she smiles. "I would have to know more about Your Majesty's desires before I could commit," she drops in an enticing yet gentle tone, also giving Pang Xin that smile, though that one was meant to be more reassuring than seductive.

When the Emperor asked for volunteers, Yaena looked across the hall again. It was to no surprise that most of the nobles hesitated. It was not just prejudice that held their step - that they had in abundance already - but it was the fear of the unknown, of confronting an old enemy that came right to your home, that gave them pause. Such was her assumption, as she turned around again gracefully to observe the reactions of the two women next to her. "I would go, if Your Majesty wishes me to," Yaena offered herself on instinct. This would be her chance to study the other side of this particularly heated coin before the two sides would be cast together. As reluctant as the courtesan was herself - though for different reasons than prejudice - she knew that she had to be bold. This is why she was here, after all.

Miho buried her eyes in the floor as the Emperor laughed at her gaff, body tense with shame. She relaxed slightly as the Emperor was distracted by his cousin, though tensed again a moment later when the horn sounded. Instinctively her hands went to her swords, ready to draw but keeping them sheathed as she scanned the room, noticing the renewed tension as the lords remembered why they were here.

Miho grimaced the Emperor began to make a fool of himself with the courtesan. For the Emperor to even to acknowledge and engage with Hengeyokai in public could be seen a scandalous in itself, to barter service with one who was also a courtesan in front of the nobles was beyond compare. Conflicted in her loyalties, Miho was about to say something when the Oni, Pang Xin, beat her to punch to advise him.

After he had finished, Miho sized up the Oni from the corner of her eye, reevaluating the creature, perhaps he was not such a bad influence after all.

Miho initially remained quiet when the Emperor asked for volunteers to meet and escort their enemy into the hall, twisting the sake cup back and forth in her hands to hide her shame at not wanting to perform this service to her liege. She tried to excuse her dereliction, she was here to protect and tend her father, not gallivant around the city babysitting their foe. As courtesan began to speak Miho felt her bile rise and could not stop herself from speaking this time.

"EMPEROR! THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE!" She shouted, slamming the sake cup down on the table as her outburst echoed around the silent chamber before she dropped to softer, though still firm tone, "We cannot send a whore to meet our enemies, the shame would be unendurable. Please Emperor, forgive my outburst and send me, I will escort the Kikai to your presence."

Yaena listened to the words contemplatively, her expression remaining the same as she thought about this - it was not the remark shot towards herself that troubled her, she ignored it and did not affect her. The woman's temper, however, did. If she would be sent to meet the Kikai, it might spell disaster. They may not take to such aggressiveness as serenely as she did should something unfortunate spark her into an outburst. This only motivated her to make her case further.

Nodding to the other, she turned to the Emperor. "Your Majesty, perhaps it would be advisable to show the Kikai that it is not only our noble lords who would be willing to open to them, but the lower classes as well. A layer of neutrality between themselves and you, someone who is neither aristocrat nor machine, would be helpful towards accomplishing that goal. And if your distinguished guest is troubled by my craft, then I could offer to don a vaguer garb, and need not mention to the Kikai what I do," she proposes with a seductive smile towards the Emperor and a smaller one to Miho, no anger hidden in her heart, just great concern.

Her vulpine eyes scan the advisor quietly, and the third girl that has been silent hitherto, curious as to how they will react to this situation.

This wait isn't all that fun. Nori is beginning to fear how all of this is going to affect her in the long run, her mind going all over the place in slight panic. There's so much she wants to do, but the fact she's branded as a criminal is going to make her life here far more difficult. It wasn't bad enough with all the racism going on, but this adds on top of things. People aren't going to trust this honest pup and if she can't get anyone to help her out, then it's going to take a straight up miracle in order to get anywhere in the push for equality. All they will see is a petty criminal stealing from merchants for money, which is far from the truth than these people think.

She snaps out of her funk when the one hengeyokai comes up and greets themselves. Yeah there's no way that Nori is calling them a "her," even with their feminine build and slight bosom hidden behind their top. She studies this hengeyokai for a moment, trying to understand what their position is before remembering that they said something to her. Nori looks at her clothes, her fingers rubbing along the fabric and she sighs half-heartingly. "If only it means anything..." she laments, leaning back in her seat to then slide forward slightly. "I may've fought under the Shogun, but I seem to have done nothing. I come in peaceful intentions and the city wants to brand me as a criminal. They don't seem to recognize all the good I've done and they want to suffer..."

The tears finally start coming out, trickling down Nori's face and she begins to forget she was talking to someone at that moment. She feels scare and afraid. She doesn't want this to happen her, and here she is on her first hour in the city. Why must the world want to punish her when she wants to change it for the better?

Well things might be getting better when there's a horn calling out in the distance and soon she hears she's free to go. Nori wipes away her tears, now feeling slightly happier about this news. It doesn't remove the fact that she is still branded as a possible criminal, even though she does have one thing that is a critical piece of evidence to clear her name. The merchant was too broad in his description, meaning that if he had not only better eyesight and a better sense of smell, he would've remembered Nori in his shop... provided she was even aware of his shop in the first place.

Nori got up from her seat and begins to make her way out of the building. Before she leaves, she turns to the hengeyokai she was talking to and introduces herself to them. "Um... Nori... Tachibana Nori," she replied before focusing back on the door and making her leave. As much she would like to help out in the case, she's not in the best of moods and would rather not be branded as a criminal. All she wants to do is find a place to stay and get a job to make sure she stays in that place. Leading her to look around for Snowdrops, trying to figure out where the police put her so the two can reunite and travel around the city to get a good idea of where everything is.

Izumi flinches slightly at the sudden noise of the horn echoing through the city, not having to wonder just what it was about long until the waitress comments on the Kikai's arrival. Hearing that she wasn't too fond of having them in the city, Izumi keeps her right arm firmly hidden away as she sets her pipe down to take a sip of her tea and start eating the fragrant bowl of ramen in front of her. "That's right, came a long way for this. Might pick up a job or two to get myself warmed up. When does this tournament start anyway? I just got into town so I don't know much about it yet." She answers the question simply before making an inquiry of her own. She had left for Otenjo after hearing there was a tournament but hadn't really thought to find out more about it until just now.
