Warhammer 40,000: Inquisition

Postby Hazard1325 » Sat Dec 05, 2015 6:33 am

The Xenobane arrived in the Jaxum system without much fanfare. The ship was outfitted to appear as an ordinary merchant vessel so beyond the standard customs procedures it was allowed to enter the system freely. As the ship began making its way towards the capital, Warren IV, the senior members of the inquisitors retinue made their way to the war room. The area was more or less shaped like a large Rosarius complete with imperial heraldry from former captains. A large circular holotable displayed the system map along with various data about the planets. There were some large gaps in information and the records had not been fully maintained through the years but the database should prove to be a reasonable starting point for their investigation. The last imperial tithe had dropped almost 50% indicating something was interfering with the systems ability to produce crops for the neighboring sectors. For now as they neared the planet the group had full access to the Imperial database to make queries and use any of the ships facilities.

Rosette retired from her prayers as she felt the ship drop out of warp, happy the shields had held the horrors of chaos at bay once again. Rising from her knees, she formed the sign of the aquila on her chest and bowed towards the alter before leaving the chapel and heading to the war room where the others would be heading also.

Looking at the displays in the room, she gathered her thoughts before speaking.

"We should start with the workers, if the foundation is tainted then the whole temple will rot," She proffered, "Let us check for any labour disputes, criminal activities and a drop of attendance to holy mass? Perhaps as well we should rule out environmental disasters or xenos meddling."

During the travel to their destination, Ash kept mostly to herself. She quickly familiarized herself with the new Inquisitor's retinue and with anyone important amongst Xenobane's crew. Without anything of interest to her going aboard the vessel, she spent most of the time by honing her skills. She welcomed the return to realspace, even though the warp dreams, though more intense and still horrifying, have less of an impact on her since she actually fought and killed daemons in battle.

She arrived into the war room and assumed her place amongst the other acolytes. Nodding as Rosette explains her idea, Ash adds: "I'll have to study local customs and culture, in case I'll have to blend in with the locals during the investigation. Perhaps there will be something suspicious in there. I will also look for the signs of xeno presence. Ork Waaaagh! would be obvious, but finding the evidence of Eldar or Tau manipulations, or even Genestealer infiltration will require a more experienced observer." Ash certainly isn't thrilled about the latter possibility. "I suppose you will look into any irregularities in their religious activities?"

After a long period of time actuating herself into the role of inquisitor with review of the past actions her predecessors as well as the resources available to her. The Xenobane, the ship she once operated on under the previous inquisitor was now under her command. All these thoughts culminated within her about what ifs. Until the remaining operatives under her command has fully convened in the war room. Taking in their words and the proposed actions with the intent to do her job.

"Good to have some capable women to work with." She nodded to those familiar with who she during the events of Lyara. "Now that we know what we must do I suggest we do it. However it bothers me that some of the information is missing in the database as well. Periods of missing information is never good for us."

After the brief conversation a light appeared on a nearby console with a timer counting down. Only about an hour until they arrived at the sector capital. According to the computer it was one of the planets with the largest amount of farmlands and a majority of the systems military. It was a temperate world predominantly composed of flat open plains and forests with a few large mountain ranges that held the last remnants of the orks. Data also indicated there was an Ecclesiarchy temple within the capitol city as well they could look at but most of the machinery used for farming was imported from the hives of Gallaran in the neighboring sector.

"His will, my hands, my liege." Rosette bowed her head, "How do you wish to approach the issue, Inquisitor? Do we slink in the shadows or announce the Lord Emperor's chosen are here?"

Rosette rubbed her hands excitedly as she thought about her armour in the armoury.

Ash thinks about the informations gained from the database and her own knowledge of the alien ways. "Feral orks are periodic threat...they attack when they reach critical numbers, but usually lacks armanents and sheer numbers to have larger effect, especially with the heavy military presence in the system. Ork Waagh! coming from elsewhere would be obvious. Agri worlds are great targets for tyranids, but genestealers try to stay hidden until the main hive fleet gets near, attracting attention to themselves by disrupting the normal workings of the planet isn't their goal. Eldar...dark eldar are raiders, agri worlds are their favorite goals, but the military presence would deter them, if they are competent. Pirates could disrupt the tithe transportation, but informations about their attacks would be easy to find, they aren't very subtle. Craftworld eldar have no obvious reason to stop the imperial tithing, but they are unpredictable, I can't rule out their involvement. If there are any xenos behind this, it would most likely be Tau. They prefer to use diplomacy and like to subvert both Imperial governors and the general populace away from the Emperor with the false promises of their Greater Good, lowering of taxes and better condition for the lower classes.

If you wish, I may give you a more detailed analysis of possible alien involvement, but it would take some time to sift through the data. Chaos or heresy isn't my field of expertise, you'll have to ask other abouts those possibilities."
Ash glances at Rosette. The sister is a warrior, not a scholar, but she still knows more about Imperial faith and related threats then the assassin.

Slowly opening her eyes, Faye stared up at the ceiling of her rather sparse quarters, allowing the fleeting dream to slowly evaporate in the light of consciousness. As was usual over the recent days, immediately after she could feel the weight of her cybernetic implants pulling down on her, making her flex her muscles to adjust and get used to the extra mass once again. She sat up and climbed off her bed, rubbing the bridge of her nose before reaching for her well-worn top and pulling it over her otherwise naked chest, before pulling on a pair of pants and making her way out and towards the command centre. She was probably late. Again.

Moving through the open doorway, Faye noted that everyone else was already assembled and discussing what their next course of action was. Yeah, she was late. "Sorry." she said in a rather flat tone as she moved up

Ash glances at the newcomer before turning back to the Inquisitor. She feels a certain kinship with the new acolyte from Lysra. She is a weapon, like Ash herself was before that mission, perhaps cruder in purpose, less precise...but just as effective at what she does.

"Yes if you could give me further details into all possible scenarios" She requests from all of them it wouldn't be long now till they arrived and they would all need to know what they would be looking for. "After we gathered all the information we can we'll hit the ground and gather what intel that may lead us to any possible corruption within our territory." While looking over the records of the planet she was still reviewing the records on those that served under her.(Sorry for the late post finals screwed with me)

"Punctuality is a virtue," sighed Rosette at the Servitor, shoulder noticeably slumping at the words of the Inquisitor.

Gathering of intel sounded boring when compared to purging the unclean.

The door opens and the sound of metal boots can be heard coming from it . It is a Battle Sister wearing her power armor , her armor is scorched half way through the helmet chest her right arm and part of her thigh . Hanging from her belt ,neck ,and weapons are golden Aquila necklaces and on the scorched areas of her armor there are engravings obviously prayers for her fallen sisters and there are a couple purity seals decorating her armor. She places her heavy bolter down on a nearby table and places her Helmet magnet locking it to her hip putting her Rebreather in her bolt pistol always close to her hand I'd on the opposite side of the helm. As scorched as her armor looks you can't see any burn marks on her face but you can see one on her neck and a large scar across her face with a dark eldar slave marking branded on her cheek . She then walks up to the rest of the group specifically the sister remaining silent glaring at the rest almost like studying them making sure they were not showing any signs of corruption though a look of hope is shown when she looks at the sister.

'Gathering intel'. Well, there was no denying that it was a sound and practical thing to do. In Faye's mind, however, some ways were better than others. She recalled in her old life the merits of intimidation to get what was wanted, but there was no way she could intimidate a cogitator, or a sensor array. Also, if her previous experiences in the hive city were anything to go by, randomly threatening Imperial citizens wouldn't help much, either.

She very briefly paid attention to the fully-armoured Adeptus Sororitas who entered the room, her boots loud enough to announce her arrival before even in sight. Of course, as far as she knew, all Sisters were like the two now in the room.

"I... believe that the first course of action should be getting information from the planetary bosses. It should show if we are dealing with corruption in the system... or something from outside"

".... one apparently not shared by my sister." Rosette continued as her fellow Sororitas entered the room.

Rosette tucked her arms inside the pockets of her travelling habbit as she listened to the others, secretly popping a hard candy into her mouth from the bag she kept secure in her pocket.

"It would appear our attentions are split then," She offered up, "Between the powers that be, xeno incursion, criminal activities and the faith of those involved. Shall we tackle these issues one at a time Inquisitor or divide ourselves and set to task most suited?"

Helen pulls out a blank gold Aquila necklace and her engraving tool then engraves Rosettes name on it with a rose on it then she puts it in Rosettes hand and says."May the Emperor guide us on our journey and protect us from our foes." She says looking into Rosettes eyes and she stared at the aquila for a little bit a small tear forming before she returns to planning a strategy and grabs out a bolter round black on its she'll until she carves battle prayers on the shell itself leaving gold letters a tear still on her cheek but she doesn't show a sad expression.

As the group continued to discuss the systems status and how best to distribute their resources a Vox warning chimed letting them know they were dropping out of the warp and back into the materium. The typical uneasy feeling washed over them during the transition before they were back in normal space. "Inquisitor Silais we are approaching the capital planet Warren IV. Personnel are standing by for instructions." The ships navigator informed them. It was up to the group to decide who would be investigating what, locations of interest included the capitol city, a large sprawling metropolis primitive in its design and appearance having been a feudal world originally. The mountain ranges to the south west of the city and the various forts might provide them with more information about the status of the orcs while the eastern plains stretched on for miles and miles of farmland. Directly south was a huge forest that provided most of the settlements building materials. Villages were scattered among the civilized lands but there were still plenty of wild expanses on the planet.

Silais had taken a bit of time as she read into the surrounding areas of what she had to worry about. "Alright then... Ash Faye you two will be sent into the capitol. Keep a low profile while trying to discern what may be causing problems for us." Looking over the other areas she thinks over of what she may have to do to assist. "The sisters... you two are gonna scout the mountains. Whatever threats the orcs may pose I'd like you two to find out. Being the most capable in combat you two should be able to remove whatever threats come your way. I'll be in the capitol as well pursuing possible contacts within the governing body."

"Your voice, my action, Inquisitor," Rosette bowed her head, "I shall retire to the armoury and prepare for task."

If there was nothing more required of her Rosette would exit the room and head to armoury in order to conduct the maintenance and activation rituals for her armour. A Sister of Order of Ordo Militant was required to know and perform such duties without the meddling or interference of the heretical Techpriests or the Ordo Mechanicus.

Faye gave a quick nod. "As you say" she said, the barest hint of excitement slipping into her voice. Just the thought of getting out there again, back on ground, brought back the spectre of joy even if the job was one of information gathering rather than target removal. Moving over, she stands with Ash, but back a step. Her new partner would have to take the lead when it came to keeping a low profile - the ex-pit slave wasn't great in that regard

Ash wants to suggest that Faye with her bionics would be better suited for combat then for inconspicuous information gathering in the city, but decides not to undermine the new Inquisitor's authority on her first mission. It may not be ideal deal, but she can improvise and somehow make it work. "As you wish, my lady."

She then turns to the Sororitas. "If you're unfamiliar with feral Orks, I can give you some general informations. Not anything specfic to the current situation, but enough to get some basic idea what are you dealing with...I can either explain it here, or send you the data during the flight to the surface. Unless we're using the Teleportarium again...?" She turns back towards the Inquisitor, her thoughts about the prospect clearly readable from her expression. They were lucky on Lysra, especially given the untested modification required in that situation. Teleportation is dangerous enough in the best circumstances, materialising far away from their goal or in the solid object is the least of the perils that awaits anyone who's not a power armored Space Marine during the transfer through the warp. Shuttle would be much more preferable, though less stealthy.
