You aren't entirely sure of what happened, a pulse having slingshot your ship out of orbit and towards the planet at terminal velocity. You find yourself in one of the escape pods, strapped down as folks rush about making last minute preparations for evacuation, after all, you still have a few minutes until actual impact, valuable data could be saved, messages could be sent!
"Warning! Crash imminent, lifepods launching in five m-m-m-"
The ship feels as if it were hit by a pulse cannon of some sort as it gets thrown off-course for a second time, the lifepod doors sealing shut as it prepares to launch prematurely. You can hear your comrades banging on the reinforced glass window, hear their shouting to let them in as your pod launches from the ship and into the water below, skipping across the surface as the flotation devices deploy. You think it's all over before out of the viewport you watch as the Aurora collides with the water, a huge wave forming as a fire shoots out of the terraforming fleet head, a boom ringing through only seconds later.
Bracing for impact, your head hits an unsecured object as you lose consciousness, waking up several hours later from an AI speaking to you.
"Vital signs stabilizing. Lifepods one through five launched successfully, activity detected on lifepods one through four. Lifepods six through twenty failed to launch. Short-range communications established. Assessing damage... Aurora inoperable, contacting nearest authority... ERROR; Electromagnetic waves interfering with signal. Running diagnostics scan... WARNING: Aurora core unstable, radiation levels too high for life to survive. Crew assumed dead. WARNING: Expected meltdown in maximum nine days. First aid has been administered. Expected time to terraforming fleet arrival: 245 Earth Days. Atmosphere: Breathable type II Earth-like biome, algae-bloom based oxygen sources. Slightly denser-than-average air content. Humidity: 73%. Water Quality: Lower Salinity than average, non-potable due to salt and algae content. Water Temperature: Approximately 22.8 degrees Centigrade ((73 degrees Fahrenheit)). Water Visibility: High. Hello, Miss IDENTIFICATION REGISTRY CORRUPTED. I am an essentials-only copy of the Aurora AI program. I will be here to assist you in your survival until the arrival of the terraforming fleet. At this time, your life pod is equipped with: ONE emergency supplies locker. ONE fire hydrant. ONE Fabricator. ONE first aid kit. ONE short-range radio communicator, ONE pack of emergency rations. With the Aurora damaged, I have taken the liberty of converting the viewport and other broken equipment on-hand into a Fragment Analyzer. Fragments of the Aurora wreckage were strewn about in the aftermath of its collision. Some of these fragments may still be viable for the creation of new blueprints that will assist you in your mission. If you have any further questions, I will attempt to assist if applicable. It is advised that you bring back samples of the local flora and fauna for analyzing, as some species may prove crucial to your continued survival, and data will assist the terraforming fleet. At this time I ask that you equip the thin neck-ring in the emergency locker, this will allow me to read your vitals more accurately and communicate necessary information to you at a distance."

Assuming it best not to immediately open the lower access hatch, you open the top hatch, peering out into the expanse...
