You aren't entirely sure of what happened, a pulse having slingshot your ship out of orbit and towards the planet at terminal velocity. You find yourself in one of the escape pods, strapped down as folks rush about making last minute preparations for evacuation, after all, you still have a few minutes until actual impact, valuable data could be saved, messages could be sent!

"Warning! Crash imminent, lifepods launching in five m-m-m-"

The ship feels as if it were hit by a pulse cannon of some sort as it gets thrown off-course for a second time, the lifepod doors sealing shut as it prepares to launch prematurely. You can hear your comrades banging on the reinforced glass window, hear their shouting to let them in as your pod launches from the ship and into the water below, skipping across the surface as the flotation devices deploy. You think it's all over before out of the viewport you watch as the Aurora collides with the water, a huge wave forming as a fire shoots out of the terraforming fleet head, a boom ringing through only seconds later.

Bracing for impact, your head hits an unsecured object as you lose consciousness, waking up several hours later from an AI speaking to you.

"Vital signs stabilizing. Lifepods one through five launched successfully, activity detected on lifepods one through four. Lifepods six through twenty failed to launch. Short-range communications established. Assessing damage... Aurora inoperable, contacting nearest authority... ERROR; Electromagnetic waves interfering with signal. Running diagnostics scan... WARNING: Aurora core unstable, radiation levels too high for life to survive. Crew assumed dead. WARNING: Expected meltdown in maximum nine days. First aid has been administered. Expected time to terraforming fleet arrival: 245 Earth Days. Atmosphere: Breathable type II Earth-like biome, algae-bloom based oxygen sources. Slightly denser-than-average air content. Humidity: 73%. Water Quality: Lower Salinity than average, non-potable due to salt and algae content. Water Temperature: Approximately 22.8 degrees Centigrade ((73 degrees Fahrenheit)). Water Visibility: High. Hello, Miss IDENTIFICATION REGISTRY CORRUPTED. I am an essentials-only copy of the Aurora AI program. I will be here to assist you in your survival until the arrival of the terraforming fleet. At this time, your life pod is equipped with: ONE emergency supplies locker. ONE fire hydrant. ONE Fabricator. ONE first aid kit. ONE short-range radio communicator, ONE pack of emergency rations. With the Aurora damaged, I have taken the liberty of converting the viewport and other broken equipment on-hand into a Fragment Analyzer. Fragments of the Aurora wreckage were strewn about in the aftermath of its collision. Some of these fragments may still be viable for the creation of new blueprints that will assist you in your mission. If you have any further questions, I will attempt to assist if applicable. It is advised that you bring back samples of the local flora and fauna for analyzing, as some species may prove crucial to your continued survival, and data will assist the terraforming fleet. At this time I ask that you equip the thin neck-ring in the emergency locker, this will allow me to read your vitals more accurately and communicate necessary information to you at a distance."

Assuming it best not to immediately open the lower access hatch, you open the top hatch, peering out into the expanse...

Sarah
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

HP: 100%
O2: Full
Hunger: 70%
Thirst: 90%

Opening up the storage locker, you find some emergency rations (+50% Thirst/+50% Hunger), your builder, a flashlight, and 20 units of quartz. The Fabricator informs you that you can make silicone or glass out of said quartz.

As you look about the expanse, the water is surprisingly visible. Blood-red grass covers the ocean floor only about twenty meters below you, small fish swimming about. You think you spot some similarly safe shallows to the north, and to the west you see a series of what you assume to be sea caves, the Aurora's hull greeting you in the far off distance. To the east, the ocean seems to give way too deeper depths, and to the south there's nothing but large swaths of kelp in your vision. The only large sea creature of note is what you could only be described as a sea cow wearing a gas mask, a large yellow bulb trailing on their hind quarters.

Kyra
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

HP: 100%
O2: Full
Hunger: 70%
Thirst: 90%

Your storage locker seems to contain your Stasis Rifle, a durable knife, fifteen units of titanium alloy, and some emergency rations (+50% Thirst/+50% Hunger). As the AI said, those rations aren't going to last you very long. All your Fabricator says you could make with that titanium are pipes for breathing or ingots.

Opening up the top hatch and peering outside, you seem to be "beached." The water below you is only about waist-deep, and seems to be home to a pocket of sea mushrooms of some sort. The Aurora lies north of your position, its Engines staring at you from the distance, and a large kelp forest separates you from it. The ocean gives way to the west of your position to deeper waters as well as what you believe to be an island in the distance, and to the south there seems to be blood-colored grass pockets growing. To the east you can see what looks like safe shallows, but a small trench separates you from them... Your position is defensible, but you imagine those shallows would be even safer.

Skye
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

HP: 100%
O2: Full
Hunger: 70%
Thirst: 90%

Opening up the storage locker, you find some emergency rations (+50% Thirst/+50% Hunger), your builder and welder, and 15 units of titanium. The Fabricator says you can only use it for pipes and ingots, but you know full well that you can use it to construct a sea base via your builder.

Having opened up the top hatch, you peer around into the depths below... It seems you're in relatively safe shallows at the moment. To the east, the Aurora's hull greets you as well as a very deep trench that could hold any manner of creatures, and to the west, a mass of kelp forest greets your eyes. The south seems to be more safe shallows, but most curiously, a series of trenches and sea caves lie to the North that are no doubt full of resources (and possibly critters). In the corner of your eye, you note a series of boulders floating in the water, being held up by what appear to be small jelly-like sea urchins along its surface.

Robin
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

HP: 100%
O2: Full
Hunger: 70%
Thirst: 90%

Opening up your storage locker, you find a builder and terraformer, as well as some emergency rations (+50% Thirst/+50% Hunger) and ten units of copper. The Fabricator informs you that you can only build copper wire at the moment.

Looking out over the expanse, the Aurora greets your eyes to the south, the front of the ship seeming to peer into your soul... A large swath of red grass also lies to the south. To the east is a massive trench and cave system that holds untold treasures, and to the west you believe you see a Kelp forest. To the north of your position, you note a distinct chill wind and various small islands, but nothing but open sea below. Directly underneath you, there seems to be relatively safe shallows at a depth of around thirty to sixty meters depending on location.

A small, rational part of her brain wondered how things could have gone so badly.
The rest of her was a whimpering, nervous wreck.
As her pod blew away from the Aurora, that small rational part of her wondered if her life was gone.
Then, the impact knocked her out.

Groggily, Skye awoken, and now she was concerned about how she was going to survive now.
5 people, 5 people got off on the ship. One might have died on impact, or was in shock.
This situation was the worst.
But Skye was determined to survive. That same determination got her this far, to an alien world, she would survive.
As it stood right now, she slipped on the neck ring, feeling it tighten around her neck.
She needed to see if there was anything scavengable from the immediate waters.

Things could had been worse for Robin as she looked out into the oceans that was displayed before her. Returning to the inside as she gathered everything she thought about how she would use the terraformer to her advantage. For now though gathering materials would prove to her benefit especially if she could build a base from what she found. "Ai.... Where is the 5th inactive pod?" if it was close enough to her she would head there to scavenge the tools. If it was too far she would gather what material she could and prepare to scavenge the main ship.
Life has gotten so much more boring. Well I suppose it doesn't help if I say my only source of entertainment is YouTube and here. So yeah not much of interesting life going on.

Kyra yawned as she awoke, the AI updating her on her current situation and of the ship's. So she was stranded, that was bad but she knew that she could survive long enough for the fleet to arrive in less a year. The better news was that there were at least four other people alive which meant she wouldn't have to draw faces on coconuts and talk to them. "Well this isn't certainly the worse situation I've found myself in." Already beginning to talk to herself. "Remember that time we got more or less ditched on that desert planet pre-terraforming? We had to dig holes and stuff to find water but now the process is reversed because we already have water and we need to dig holes to find food!" She frowned at the thought for a second, rephrasing the words in her head before repeating them outloud. "We need food instead of water. And clean water." Satisfied with her correction, she grabbed her stasis rifle and slipped her knife into her belt. Time to get down to business!

Sunken giant ship or not, Kyra was paid the big bucks to catalog any and all possible threats the colonists could face on the planet, especially carnivorous plant and animal life. Right now she was a bit short on her armory that could let her go toe to toe or run away super fast from most predators but a job was a job. "And a job doesn't get done unless you do it yourself." Repeating her mantra as she popped open her top hatch after equipping her neck-ring. At least this world was kinda beautiful in a unspoiled, isolated, peaceful yet terrifying way. "AI! What is the safe distance from the Aurora for the impending explosion? Also could you broadcast on my radio an alive and all clear sign?" At least she didn't have to worry about her pod drifting away since it was beached from the looks of it. She breathed in the salty-sweet aroma of the ocean, her eyesight drifting down towards the funny looking mushrooms surrounding her. It had been a good thing that she had already been in her swim gear since she immediately dropped down into the water to grab a sample of it. In a single gesture she tried to cut the mushroom at the stem before climbing back into the pod and dropping it on the Fragment Analyzer. "AI! Anal-lyze this for science!" Attempting a dirty joke then instantly chuckling at it. "I need to know if its edible, poisonous-ble or a vegetable!" Cracking another joke that produced more laughter from its terrible creator.

Sarah slowly awoke from the crash landing, rubbing her head at the point where she got knocked unconscious. She took in her surroundings with a bit of a groggily view, listening to the speech of the AI. When it had finished, she calmly analaysed her situation while attaching her neck ring. "9 days time to get food and water supplies and build a protected base before the core goes off. I better get to it immediately." Seeing, that she was sturrounded by a vast ocean, she opened the storage locker, grabbing two pieces of silicone and the flashlight. "Damnit, I need a knife!" she cursed before taking the silicone and immediately crafting herself a pair of flippers, putting them on immediately. Then she jumped into the water, taking in her surroundings. She dived down to the ocean floor, looking for any scavengable material, that could help her build a knife. Once that was done, she would try to chase after some of the smaller fish to analyse them and probably gather her first food source.

Three posts until evening

OOC:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

For all intents and purposes, we’ll assume the planet functions on an 8 hour day instead of a 24 hour day. This also allows us to explain the player being able to stay awake through the evening/why so many fish in-game are cathemeral (and it is plausible from a physics standpoint if I remember right). Day and night will last for four posts each.

Skye
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

HP: 100%
O2: 45/45
Hunger: 65%
Thirst: 85%

Diving into the immediate waters (~20 meters deep), you note a whole shoal of fish that look vaguely reminiscent of a pacifier. Most of them swim away immediately out of fear, but a handful remain, confused and having never seen a human before. You easily manage to swipe two of them up as they wiggle in your hands, storing them for investigation later.

Image

Searching around a bit more, you happen upon some crystal quartz hidden in the nearby sea grass (two units) and even manage to find some chunky white substance that seems to be salt! You feel yourself running out of breath as you pick up some strange mushrooms, surfacing and making your way into the lifepod to investigate.

Sure enough, as you surface inside, the lifepod immediately analyzes the items you acquired as a small Ultraviolet scanning/disinfectant light goes over you.

“New species of fish discovered: Very High salinity levels in blood, recommend cooking before consumption to prevent dehydration. Creature characterized by large hole in fin, will be documented as… HOLE FISH. New Plant Matter detected: Sulfuric acid present underneath surface, safe to consume outer layer if drained, high vitamin A and C contents present. Possible to use acid to form a battery with proper components. Salt analyzed: Capable of curing meat, burning metal salts creatable with additional units. Quartz Analyzed: This unit can reconstruct into silicone at this time, or glass with more units.”

“Receiving message from lifepod three: Subject says she is alive and all clear.”

Robin
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

HP: 100%
O2: 25/45
Hunger: 65%
Thirst: 85%
((I’ll go ahead and do the AI analysis of the items OOCly for when you return))

“Fifth Lifepod is 1,600 meters west of the Aurora, approximate trajectory of 1,800 meters from your position. Receiving message from Lifepod Three: Subject says she is alive and all clear.”

Diving into the water below, you happen upon a strange creature that looks reminiscent of two balloons attached to a stick. Picking it up behind the head, it feels extremely bony, probably not containing much meat. ((Airsack, can be cooked or used to make fresh water))

Image

Digging around in the sand, you find a large heap of titanium scrap metal from the Aurora! ((x6 titanium))

You see a strange fish with large eyes and a bird-like mouth. Giving chase to it, you can’t help but notice that it’s fast, really fast… But also really dumb. You decide to approach it from above, and as it goes to try and burrow into the ground, you snatch it by its hind fins! ((Peeper)) You prepare to drag your findings back to the lifepod when…

“Grrrlblblbl.”

Huh? Looking around, you spot a small sea cave just barely large enough for you to swim into it. At the entrance, there seems to be some sort of red coral tube-like flower as a critter pokes its head out, a large eye looking around.

Kyra
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

HP: 95%
O2: Full
Hunger: 65%
Thirst: 85%

”Message sent from Lifepod three. Should kinetic and radiation safeguard shielding hold through the explosion, safe distance from initial explosion at your trajectory is eight hundred meters, an additional fifty meters per day will be deemed unsafe without a light radiation suit until maximum coverage has been reached. At 1,200 meters, you will be safe from the explosion. Should kinetic safeguard shielding fail to hold through the explosion, safe distance from initial explosion and radiation burns is approximately 139 kilometers. Chance of safeguard shield failing is approximately thirteen percent. I have deemed it unsafe to mention this to the other lifepods to prevent a panic.”

After laughing at your rather punny joke, you suddenly notice a burning sensation in your hand… Ouch! Dipping your hand into the water and rubbing some sand on it to get rid of the sensation, the AI informs you about the mushrooms.

“Acidic mushroom. It is safe to eat the outer skins and they are high in vitamins A and C as well as fiber. Sulfuric acid present at the stems. Advised to rip from the ground and drain, as cutting could release the acid in a quick spurt. Mushroom acid shows proper acid ratio to use in batteries if copper base is present. Warning: Neural Toxins may be present in small amounts in acid mixture.”

Investigating the area a little further, you manage to find a fish that looks like two balloons attached to a stick, a few quartz crystals, and analyzing some coral, you find that if you could locate some gold or silver somewhere, you could probably use it in the creation of computer chips!

“New species identified: Appears to have a filtration system much like that of a human kidney, except full of air and small traces of water. One-time water filter could be made from it. Low nutritional value. Shall be referred to as: Airsack. Silicone can be made from crystals present, glass can be made with additional crystals.”

Sarah
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

HP: 100%
O2: Full
Hunger: 65%
Thirst: 85%
((14x Quartz remaining))

“Receiving message from lifepod three: Subject says she is alive and all clear.”

Making your flippers and diving in, you find some scrap metal easily enough as you convert it into titanium, forming a knife! This should prove useful!

Searching around a bit more, you manage to find a fish reminiscent of a shovel as you snag it before it can run away, as well as some white chunky material... You’re relatively sure it’s salt, but it could always be good to double check.

Image

You prepare to head back to lifepod 1 to examine your findings when you note a strange sea critter in the distance. It almost looks like an underwater butterfly, except it’s about three fourths the size of a human… Huh.

Ah, right. She wasn't alone on this planet.
Other crew members were alive, but she didn't realize that communications were still up.
"A.I.?" she called out to the empty life pod. "Broadcast that I'm clear here across all available channels."
"Also, do we have any sort of propulsion? I'd like to see if we can get towards another pod."
Whether or not they had power, she was going to dive one last time, see what she could find before hunger caused her to abandon the search for usable materials around temporarily.

While the fabricator produced the knife, Sarah messaged a short "Lifepod 1: alive and all clear." back after hearing from lifepod three and let out a sigh of relief when she finally held the useful tool in her hands.
To her pleasant surprise, she quickly managed to catch the spade-lookalike fish and find some salt she could use for cooking it. She immediately headed back to the lifepod, when she noticed the rather big fish in the distance. She was intrigued, and after a quick think and questioning her stomach, she headed back to the lifepod and stored all her findings in the storage locker. Taking only her knife and her flashlight with her and fastening both items on her belt, she jumped back into the water and slowly swam into the direction of the creature, hoping, it would still be there. If so, she would keep her distance, trying to observe and not appear as a threat.

Robin diving below was glad to find some possibly useful materials. Noticing the creature in the wall she decided to keep her distance from it as she swam back up to scan her findings. Upon arriving to the surface she asks the ai "I need you to scan this and inform me of the material to make a stable base of operations. As well as what a copper wire could be used or made into with the proper material." Robin dragged her loot in deciding to jump back down in search of more things before continuing forward.
