=I=
It is the year 999 in the 41st millenium, and mankind is in a war for survival. The Imperium of Man ecompasses the entirety of the Milky Way galaxy, from the galactic core to the dim starts at it's very edge, and all the billions of stars in between. Not a single corner has gone unexploited, as any world evern remotely capable of supporting Human life has been colonised, and countless pre-Imperial civilisations braught under the yoke of Imperial control, or ahnialated and replaced with one under control of the Administratum.
Most citizens arn't aware of the threats from without that continuall press the defences of the Imperium - the barbaric Orks who live for war; The Eldar who would secrifice handfuls of Human worlds in order to protect their own dwindling race, and their raider kin who strike out and take entire populations into slavery; The lifeless Necrons who view all things living as an abomonation; The forces of Chaos and the Daemons of the Warp, who strike out from hidden bases to kill and destabilise the Imperium; The Tau from the Eastern Fringe and their philosophy of the Greater Good, swaying Imperial worlds to their side; And the Tyranids - aliens from beyond the edge of the galaxy who'se sole purpose is to comsume every living thing in it's path
Even those that are aware of one or more of the alien threats are generally in the dark about the enemy within. Mutations can strike anywhere in the Imperium, and are a sign of Chaotic taint. Rebel groups who desire to be free of the Imperium constantly rise up in an attempt to overthrow the Planetary Governors. Cults, either Daemon worshiping or Genestealer led, attempt to destabalise planets and make them easy prey and, worst of all are the wars fought with loyalists on both sides, the only reason being political in nature.
It is within this last category that the Imperial Inquisition fall. They are split into three categories - the Ordo Xenos, Ordo Hereticus, and Ordo Malleus. Each one investigated one threat to the Imperium, be it aliens, daemonic influence, or heretics. Of course sometimes their areas or jurisdiction overlap and it's not unknows for all three branches to go after the same target, if it happens that a rogue alien psyker has raised an army of deamons and is threatening the Imperium with them, while disguised as a Human. However, while the orders may squabble with each other over exactly who should be doing what, each order also has an internal spit between the Purists and the Radicals over the best methods used to dispose of the threats. Purists advocate the use of Imperial technology and have absolute faith in the arms of Man to fight back any threat, whereas the Radicals suggest turning the weapons of the enemy on themselves - after all, what better way to kill an alien their own weapon?
You are part of one if these Inquisitorial warbands, primarily under the banner of the Ordo Hereticus. It is your duty to battle the foes within to ensure the continuation of the Imperium of Man
One way, or another, I'm going to find you, I'll get you, I'll get you!
