A Deadman's Tale: The Island of Sorrow

Postby Lady Foxy » Sun Nov 06, 2011 11:24 pm

I had always wandered out at the vast seas, admiring the beauty and calmness it could bring to anyone. But that soon enough turned into a 'Bloody fight. I was a Captain of the Vine of Skies, a ship under the command of an Admiral by the name of Carter Austious. Such a strange last name for a 'fella those days, but I didn't mind. He would always tell us about this.. So called island, filled with a series of mysterious.. Objects and Rumors. Of course he only told it when we didn't have anything to do, it always raised our morale.

But as you see.. As the King called the army to war, the navy was quickly sent to deal with the shores of our homeland's enemies. We sailed the fine seas, never encountering a single ship in sight for the whole month we were out there. The.. Kingdom we were fighting.. Was hidden from view. Now, don't get me wrong.. They had a vast army, but we kept our eyes wide open for entire days and nights. I even wished I could be at home with my wife and daughter.. But there were taken from me, As we wandered into that grim-looking mist..

Five cannon rounds hit the ship, Kaliant is wounded, screaming for help as he tried to reach a cannon. As the enemy ship comes out from the mist, it seemed they multiplied into thousands.. I could hear their screams.. The gunpowder.. And the bullets. I took command of the ship, forcing it into collision with the attacking ship. The admiral was downstairs, helping with the wounded as he was currently there before they attacked. A loud, blinding-noise made everything blow into smithereens as the two ships crashed. I was thrown into the water by the explosion, barely getting a glimpse of the horrible navy that began to explode, their remains ending up on the water as well.. But I kept on swimming, grabbing a large piece of broken wood to rest myself.. And I watched how they carried treasures.. Some unthinkable wonders nobody might have ever thought of. And I followed them, ending up in this vast island full of.. strange people. They had golden armors, two handed swords that could cut anything in a matter of seconds. Then.. That's when I discovered the Island.. Of Sorrow. My happiness.. Drowned away when I asked for immortality. Instead, I became.. Well, you mates should go now, don't want to catch a cold in this weather.

Hmmm. Not really sure what to say. Interesting concept - set before the days of ironclad ships which would limit weapons to swords and matchlock / flintlock guns, with extremely limited ammo, marooned on a jungle island inhabited by seemingly vicious natives, and also with members of the opposing navy also on the island. Seems to be in the similar vein to a couple of other RP's seen around here, in the "you're trapped here with them" style, but with the option of actually trying to get off the island by swimming, even if it'll likley result in the character's death anyway.

Also, it would seem that, as the survivors are navy crewmen, depending on who wins the war would be the people who would send out the rescue ship. If one gets sent at all...

You got the main idea, but this isn't a ''You're trapped here with them'' RP. You will be from very different type of classes, from a simple villager to a rich nobleman that will be interested in the tale of the Deadman. You'll start in the main capital of course, with similar friendships or a unknown status if you want to.

Ah, so it's more like an expedition being sent out to explore the island? I see now! Everyone will be eliberately going there, and each with their own reasons! Well that definatly makes it more interesting

Indeed, but there will be a lot of things and events going on to get the expedition going. For example, the rich or anyone in the navy will be already arranged to be together, anyone else will be separate from them, or can even go alone.

Cool. One would assume that there would be the chance of pirates showing up, if that war isn't over. OOH! Or perhaps have the option of being a pirate, but undercover! Anyway, i'm happy to act as a soundboard if you want to bounce ideas and concepts and stuff off me

Looks interesting, I'll have to have a think of a good character though, I can be someone important if you want me too, but I have no problems being a small side character or less :p

Name: Bryant Morgan
Age: 32
Place of Birth: Lishton
Physical Appearance: Bryant Morgan is a man who stands around 6' 4" . His face resembles a shipwreck with his check in tatters which have healed over leaving a horrid scar. His hair is short and shaggy, as if he had just woke up in a manure pit, He reeks a strong stench of rum that permeates the air around him wherever he goes.
Biography: Bryant, or formerly known as first mate morgan or "Brine" for short, Was a sailor aboard the ship Ranger was a respectable man, not honest, but could keep your back in a fight. He sailed underneath that boat for 8 long years before it was engaged in a deadly broadside assault from a Galleon around two times the size of their boat. They stood no chance when the cannon shot raked the side of the boat and cut through the side wooden paneling. Morgan himself fell victim to a Grape Shot attack which most of his left cheek off at the time, shortly after the boarders came aboard the captain of the Ranger dove off the port bow of his boat, leaving Morgan and the rest of the men for dead. The captain of the opposing Galleon ordered they were to be put in the captains cabin and the ship to be sunk. Not many are sure how Morgan escaped from the boat, but they do know he isnt the same for it, now he spends his times in the tavern drinking his life away.
Inventory: He wears an old leather tricorne and a long leather jacket that has been stained with salt water, his boots, are a pale black, faded through time. On his hip he carries a Steel Boucan Knife and a single shot flintock pistol. Also a bottle of alcohol is never out of his hand for any long period of time.

2.Age: 16

I see, you wish to know what it is about. Re-Read the small story I have there and then read this post. The basic thing is, there is a legend of that battle, where only a few survivors were able to explore the glorious island. It was of a decent size, having it's own people and such inhabiting it. But, when they found one of the complex shrines, they stole an object that gave them immortality, for a price of course. Some turned into the combined forms of animals and humans, others not being so lucky with them. The main character here, was turned into a complete skeleton. Of course, he currently spends his time in a tavern, telling stories and talking about the legend.. Of course, this has brought a few ideas to some people. Good or bad, Evil or Pure, or Neutral, everyone might be tempted by the legend.
