Greg can't help but smirk a bit at the thought of Lina being a recon unit. Sure, her fox-like features kind of fit with the job description, but he thought they'd give her away on the stealth-ops stuff. Chuckling at her joke, he replies: "Well, I'll do my best to stay out of your way. Besides, I'm more the type that works best with a team, particularly with flanking strategies; on my own, I'd get gunned down in no time, heheh."
"Though if you ask me, I really get that 'zen' feeling more when I'm up in the air, particularly in a gunship or a fighter. It's safer than being on-foot, and has the advantage of not needing to hear your victims scream. Some soldiers get a kick out of that, but me...well, let's just say it lost its charm with a certain...'incident.'"
While he doesn't say it out loud, Greg's referring to the Ventus III incident, where his impatience with the enemy's mobile base caused the deaths of thousands...tens of thousands, in fact. He himself had managed to get out in time, but as he fled the self-destructing base's explosion, he caught a glimpse of an elementary school being caught in the blast. To make it even worse, he saw some of the kids running out of the building, right before the wall of plasma and molten debris caught up to them. It's a sight that no one should ever have to see...and it haunts him to this very day. Just thinking about it causes Greg to look down at the toy soldier, which serves as his memento, and grimace with shame.
Of course, all Lina hears on her end is Greg just suddenly falling silent, then a single, brief groan of what sounds like slight pain.
