Ty straightened up his back a little, getting into his best posture. As he spoke the last of the crewmen begun to fall in line, the close quarters of the ccc becoming much more cramped. The attention was shifted back to her once more as the doctor had finished speaking. He took a spot against the wall, an arms-breadth from the door in which he came.
"Thank you doctor, for a colorful introduction. I am sure the eligible ladies in here will take you up on your tethered space walks on a starry evening. For those who have the pleasure of joining us for the first time I welcome you. There was a briefing from the big man himself, the old man CEO. If you wish to watch the recording, I can download it to your personal consoles at a later day."
She paused once more, making sure to make eye contact with each of the members assembled before her.
"Our course of action is as follows; I wish for you to get acquainted with each of the areas of this ship, specifically your work areas. I can see that the ship is in working condition according to the indicators around the room."
She gestured to the many lights, read-outs, indicators, and panels. Surely it was jargon to most of the people having been posted to their first mining outfit.
"This ship is our lifeline, and you are each responsible for keeping it working. Double check all the systems of the ship to make sure there are no faults with the system. There are breifings for each of the departments, introducing you to the work areas, it should be much to the same configuration as the rigs you trained on."
She sighed, looking around the room the lack of attention was apparent. <<Can't blame then>> she thought, the fog of cryo-sleep still on her mind.
"Look, I have been a veteran deck-hand myself for many years myself. This is it, we are the only one for a greater area of the outer-reach. Out here each of you will be a psychologist, a doctor, a friend, a crying shoulder. You don't have to be my best friend, or have to like me, but I want to be able to count on you, to know you got my back if shit goes down. It is better to be prepared and start with a good attitude, than to cultivate distrust and hate."
Pausing for dramatic effect she let it sink it. Alexia wasn't a fan of dramatization, but she has seen what happens under the wrong conditions. If she wanted to stay in command, and bring her crew back safely, she needed to begin to mold them into the perfect mining shift. Many of them are new to the pains and rigors of mining, and unlike other outfits they would have to push through regardless of whether they wanted to go home or not.
"So any more volunteers for introducing themselves", she said with her smile again. She brought her chin to rest on her hands again, fully intent on listening.
