With that said, he places his hand on the vault door, checks to make sure that everyone's standing back, and (assuming they are) begins passing an electric current through the metal, doing what he can to "direct" it towards the center and sides, where a locking mechanism is likely to be. Once he can establish a decent spread between the door's edges, he begins to slowly "twist" the current's path, causing it to rotate along the surface, occasionally pulsing a briefly larger charge to reach further. The aim of the charge-pulses is to try and cause the electricity to arc out, possibly striking a control panel on a wall, or something else bolting it shut.
