The sound of gunshots from the elevator shaft causes Zan to perk up. Could Silent have survived that? A drop like that in an unhinged elevator couldn't have allowed him to live...or rather, that's what the sane belief would be. Then again, he's seen the man in action, and from what he saw, that crazy guy might've pulled off an equally crazy escape...
Of course, when you're suddenly being yanked into an air duct by a freaky hand, thinking about Silent pretty much flies out the window. After being dragged in fast for a few seconds, he gets a good look at his assailant...
"What in the salt-cured fuck is this thing?!"(The BGM Zan's hearing in his head right now:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZoLdJ2zahI. Also, I hope you don't mind me putting a little more detail into the struggle, just for entertainment purposes... ^^;; )
Shock and disturbance at the abominable sight before him has Zan thrown for a loop over the span of a second or two, but after quickly steeling himself as best as he can, he realizes one blunder the critter made: it left his own arms unrestrained. Acting fast, he takes his Ace of Spades and jams it into the monster's wrist repeatedly, stabbing in an attempt to free himself. The creature's screeches echo in his ears, its arm flailing about and making his strikes progressively harder to land. Eventually though, he gets the thing's grip loose enough for it to drop him...
...straight through the bottom of the duct.
Zan grunts from the sting of pain as he craches through the duct and to the floor beneath him, reflexively aiming his Beam Pistol back up in preparation for the creature's renewed attack...but it simply hisses at him up there, and decides not to follow him. Good move on its part; after all he's been through thus far, Zan doesn't feel like messing around with some mutated, multi-eyed rat-like thing.
Just to be safe, Zan watches the air duct to make sure the mutant doesn't try to attack him again, ready to open fire on its hideous mug if it does come back. If it doesn't, however, he'll just back away from the duct he fell through, and check his surroundings to get an idea of where he is.
