-Nostradamus
A man walks among a wasteland. In the distance, a girl screams. This lone traveler draws his military issue military rifle and runs toward the noise. He is sick of the hate, of the violence, and the rape that he sees just as he passes the hill. Anger overfills him, he runs forward with the rage fit to burst a human heart. However, this man has no normal heart. The rapists see the incoming hell about to fall upon them, they quickly finish with the girl and end her life with a quick bullet to the back of the head. Just as her would be savior arrives, the rapist dodges to the side, kicks him in the side, while his buddy puts two rounds into their attacker.
So much for good in this world. His last thoughts were of sorrow. He had tried, and he had failed. Off in the distance, a group of eleven watch, but rewind! Nukes go off in the distance, the earth shatters and large landmasses shift and crumble like some bad science fiction movie, while hundreds of mutants and dying creatures with a brain killing virus perish in the chaos. Miraculously, not the entire would is ruined, but much of it left uninhabitable. Rewind even further, but not much.
The year, is 2012, the month, of course December. I'll let you guess which day it is. The entire world is in a state of economic hell, on the verge of collapse. Right now, many people are awing on that fact that today is the foreseen end of the world. However, they are false, it is instead, just an apocalypse. The earth will live on after today, however horrifically scarred.
A women stands in an unmarked science lab somewhere in Arizona. She is working on a cure for Alzheimer's, finally reaching a breakthrough just before the government finally takes notice and takes over, allowing her to lead a team of similar biomechanists. She is about to finalize her project on a test subject, a random citizen who offered himself to as a guinea pig. Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, a contracted mercenary trains for his next assignment in Afghanistan. He hates that shithole, but money is money, and he hasn't had a job in almost a year now.
