Just wanted to say to everyone on the Area 52 team, thanks for your time. It sucks that nothing came of it, but not all of us are unappreciative of the time y'all spent on the project. Good luck in whatever you end up doing.

Thanks for the sentiments, I will be sure to pass it on to the others eventually. The problem with any project on a major forum of course is that you are much more open to criticism then if you were to keep it off-forum. I am not against criticism, and never will be since that is what allows artists to grow and continue to try and reach for whatever aims and goals we have. However the problem will always be the people that are ignorant of what goes into a product such as this.

As is often demonstrated by any forum, the majority of the posts are usually people that just appeared and trying to catch up, people that make request, and of course the loudest of the bunch, the guys that express negative opinions. That is not to say it is bad to be the most vocal, it just sometimes feels like there are more people hating the project than liking it. This is just, however, the negative people being vocal while most of the people happy with what is going on being silent as there isn't much to say beyond good job here and there etc. My policy has always been to keep it civil, I don't mind people coming up to me and saying, "Thaedael, I think you are a poor moderator because you delete posts that are way off topic at the demands of thread organizers, clean up image macros that do not contribute constructively to the thread at hand etc.etc.", but I hate getting called a "Fur-fag douche-bag that can't moderate himself out of a wet paper-bag filled with the feces of a thousand horrible rats". I digress however;

As for what came out of it;

Alcander;

The most time spent was by far Alcander who worked three months solid, about 2-3 hours a day, or about (+/-30) 252 hours. He used mostly place holders as a means of testing the system as we waited for the graphic department to catch up, since people have and will always be most critical of the art and never anything else. However this came to an end when his computer died, and with him shipping of in November to serve mandatory military service, he won't be able to work on anything for two full years. Best of luck to Alcander, stay safe and come back alive. Alcander came to the forums with the idea of making his own game, a Warhammer 40,000 sex game. You would play as an inquisitor, deploy to missions, fight, and there would be a few sex scenes. If anything working a little on Area_52 gave him the much needed breaks between work on his own game, and learning to do what he needed for both projects. That being said in 2 years from now I will be waiting for him to appear again so that we can continue to work on his 40k game. So best of luck to him.

Malcanthet;

She was the main artist for the models. She did a bunch of drawings but then had basically disappeared off the face of the earth for most of the summer. However as I have said several times across several posts, we all have lives and it gets in the way, especially when you are out on your own paying for your life, something that is usually taken for granted by university students still living on mum and pop's bill. In her case she was a ship-crewman so of course her life got busy, drills, fire-fighting (she kicked the fires ass) etc. She also moved back home and what not. What came out of the project for her? Well other than being criticized a lot for her own unique style, she did motivate herself to get a scanner, and to learn how to digitally color her work. Whether she will continue with it I do not know but I can only pray.

Trunks;
Did the writing. Had to give up some of his turf to Malcanthet who insisted in re-writing parts of the plot. Overall though you guys see him around so you can pretty much piece it together. Still an awesome guy, however he is feeling a lot like I do. After working our asses off he understands the work that goes into games, and shares a healthy dose of skepticism and scorn for people that make outrageously rude demands without understanding the process themselves or are ignorant in their own over-ambition.

KatsuO_O;
Katsu does what he wants. That is kind of what makes him so special. Basically he offered to make models, Malcanthet offered to draw them. A lot of people got on his case with the model style when all he was doing was tracing Mal's artwork to make the models. He spent most of the time sitting on his ass however since there wasn't much for him to work on because of the time differences between him and Mal. That being said he became a moderator out of the project, got much better at animating and making models, learned to become a furry artist, learned more programming, is part of my team to make a different game as well as being on a another team called "Plan B" LoK, and on top of all that still helping people as always. That being said you can expect something out of him, in that he always works even if it isn't focused in just one area.

Ebonizza (Jay_Steppes now)
Basically didn't really want to be a part of it at the beginning because of the previous lack of progress. However once he saw work being done he joined on again optimistic, and even composed pieces for the game. That being said haven't talked to him since so no idea what he is up to. Hopefully composing more music so if anything at least practice at composing came out of it.

Ron_Pepper
Did beautiful backgrounds, worked fast, worked professional, and consistently. He however left to continue working on his life, last I heard he was doing retraining to get a higher position within his company to move up his quality of living. Best of luck to him. If anything a good map pack came out of it, if you look up his name, there is a signature for people to use the backgrounds he made in their own games.

Then there was me. Not going to talk about myself since it makes me feel egotistical.

Since Thaedael doesn't want to talk about himself, I will.

He's honestly one of the ones that helped keep me sane through this. He was the one that convinced me to try and stick around for the new guys that wanted to jump onto Area 52 and offer their help. I know I vented to him a few times, he did his best to keep me from flying off the handle too much at Mal and Kat. And like me, we shared frustration in the lack of progress on the art end. I'd say he was the most level headed person that had any hand in this and if Area 52 needed anything, it was a leader to keep people on task. Thaedael will never agree to this, but I think he should have been that leader. I'm not sure anyone else would be able to keep a level head and stick with the project like he did. He got annoyed with things, but he didn't blow up at people like I tend to do, he stayed in contact with the others, he was in general more informed.

If nothing else I don't have anything bad to say about him (same goes for Al and RP) so make of that what you will.

Oh, wow. I haven't checked in to this section in months, so I decided to see what the progress was. So the project is dead, huh? That's sad... LoK brought me to this forum, where I observed many interesting and funny people, and saw the spinoff projects emerge and fade away. I hate that the main project fell through, but I appreciate the forums staying up, since there's still all the crazy side-projects going on, not to mention the community that this created.

In staying with the topic of the thread, I want to thank all of you who worked so hard on the project. You're making a game for free that so many people are quick to critize, and often harshly. I'm not even a furry fan (though Krystal is still pretty hot), but I'm a fan of people doing hard work for a fanbase out of the kindness of their hearts. You guys rock, and good luck in whatever you end up doing.

Because I know if I don't say it, Ren will. The 'main' project is still being worked on by Renara and Eggplants, but they haven't really shown anything yet. Area 52 was a second group that wanted to produce an LOK game faster than Ren's team.

I sort of blame myself for seeing this thread only just now, but nonetheless i would very much like to thank all of you. I've been around the forums for a couple of years now, and even though i didn't always tell you guys how much i appreciated your work and your effort, i do feel like saying it now.

There's not really much for me to say about the project itself, but i do want to say that you guys are great and that the critique on this forum might seem to out-weight the compliments; but trust me, about half the posters criticizing you guys are probably just trolls, wanting to have a laugh off of furries.
Just remember that you've got a huge amount of lurkers, coming back only to see how you guys are doing. Imagine all the posts you'd have to sort through if all those lurkers would compliment you, haha!

So what was to come out of this? I feel kinda dumb asking this, but before I became a member just a few days ago, I'd periodically check up on Area 52 just to find myself confused. Was it to be a better v 2.0 of LoK?

Area52 was basically a separate group working toward their own updated version of LoK. Essentially the same goal as the "main" project but trying a more open approach that has fizzled out for now.

Something was mentioned about a "Plan B", but no-one really seems to know what that was. In any event, Area52 was a separate attempt to make a new LoK game (as opposed to a spin-off or original work as in the creative corner projects); other groups are of course welcome to have a go at their own LoK games, since the main project here is official only in so far as it's the "official" project of this site, without PlayShapes at the helm it's all just fan-made creations in practise :)

Plan B is an off-forum effort by a group of people that I do not know about other than the fact that Katsu is doing the graphics. However since I am back in university and Katsu is in a different time zone haven't had the chance to catch up with him. However at my suggestion I told him to go about doing it behind closed doors to prevent any stupidity from occurring.

@PatchPirate I'm sorry for not doing something about it already.

I'm glad that you do appreciate work, even when we never really released anything. It is something people forget, you should appreciate when someone is trying, giving a try to do something.

To be honest there is quite a bit of people on the forum that I dislike just because the way they think so a big thank you to you for your understanding.

I was actually trying to set Trunks up for a one-liner. Sorry about the confusion. XD

But yeah, of course I appreciate it. More than most people do, and y'all sunk probably hundreds of hours of your lives into it. That's not nothing.

In the case that this project is completely done, would it be possible for you guys to post what you already have done in the Creative Corner Depositorium ? I know that while making alot of the other games, and V2 that certain scenes and stuff were uploaded there. Would it be possible to put what you guys managed to get done there?

just a question....TY

Should I make a compendium? I was following most of the progress, so I can at least make a "Mal's Art Corner".
